suds and water leak out the back air vent
By mumofmany
My machine is three weeks old and from the start would leak suds out the back air vent. It took two service visits and much observation to determine the source of the leak. LG representatives claim that this happens from oversudsing. I only use he (high effeciency) soap and use less than 1 tablespoon per load, so if the machine is oversudsing it is through no fault of my own. As recommended by LG, I have run the tubclean cycle and cleaned out the filter in the front(which was completely clean as the machine is so new)and no change. Every few loads, there are pools of water under the machine. There must be a major engineering flaw that allows suds to escape from the machine on a regular basis. A suds error code has not once come on to prevent this from occuring. At least if suds are able to leak out the air vent, the suds error code should kick in and shut the machine down before water ends up all over my laundry room floor. Laundry has become quite a pain, running and checking every load to check if I need to mop up. (I do ALOT of laundry for my large family, so I am doing a lot of running and mopping). I am very unhappy and unfortunately I bought the machine from a company that does not allow returns on a major appliance. I don't know if I will have any luck, but I am planning on working with LG and the company I bought this from until they take this machine back!I also tried putting this review on the LG website and had it rejected for "failing to meet review guidelines". I went over the review guidelines and was pretty sure I met them all unless there is an unwritten review guideline not to write negative reviews!

I think Amazon reviewers are being a little hard on this washer
By L. Singleton
I bought this washer a few days ago. I absolutely LOVE it. It's quiet (except for some vibration and "jet engine" noises when the spin cycle is getting revved up, which is a common issue with ALL front loaders which spin 1200 RPM or faster) when washing and rinsing - I can literally hardly hear it at all, and it's right outside my bedroom door in the hallway.I did a TON of research and settled on this washer as the best compromise of price (in my case on sale for $800), capacity, features, and "Brand Reliability." LG scores well with reliability, although there are some horror stories about some of their top-load washers (see the videos on the #1 ranked video web site - search "LG washer exploding".) Samsung and LG are about head-to-head in reliability and features, although in technology, Samsung might be a bit ahead - they have a washer now with an 8" touch screen which handles all functions and is wi-fi enabled. But it's also about $300-$500 more expensive than this LG WM3470HWA washer. This is one of the top-rated models according to a well-known consumer testing agency. It also scores well on websites which sell a lot of appliances - you can search for the results yourself. The washing experience is great. Tons of options when it comes to choosing what cycles to use for which clothes. The 4.0 cubic feet rating means it can wash a LOT of clothes in one load. It has the TurboWash feature which can get a load finished in about 25 minutes, if the soil level is not too bad and you are in a hurry. The 1200 RPM spin speed means many clothes come out virtually DRY. Polyester polo shirts? Practically dry. I washed a thin blanket and it went straight from the washer right onto my bed - just slightly damp. You want to be cautious if you have this on a second-level-or-higher wooden floor, as the spin cycle can get noisy for people below. There are rubber "vibration reduction feet" you can buy on this website if you need them. On a lower-level concrete floor, you'll be fine. One other common issue with this washer seems to be "water hammer" problems. With older plumbing, or higher water pressure than normal, this washer might cause your pipes to "bang" or make noises when it fires it's internal water jets during the wash cycle. This can be easily solved with $20 worth of "water hammer arrestors" which can be purchased at most hardware stores, and also here on Amazon. I bought myself a pair of them, since my apartment complex is "older" and I just wanted to make sure this problem did not bother either myself or the neighbors. So far, I have heard NO pipe sounds with the arrestors installed. The go on at the back of the washer, between the water hose and the washer. You can web search and find all this information.I did buy a 5-yr extended warranty to cover myself in case of problems, but the warranty was very inexpensive. The motor is warrantied by LG for 10 years, the stainless steel tub for lifetime, and all else for 1 year.I'm only giving this washer 4 stars because of the potential for water hammer noise and the fact that it might not be perfect for laundry rooms on the second floor or above which have wooden floors. As far as performance and how much I love it, 5 stars for sure !!!

Great Machine
By CJ
I bought this machine together with its matching electrical dryer. I have had it for two weeks. They both look so great, and they have a lot of functions. The washer operates very quitely even at full spin. It takes such a big load, I washed 37 T-shirts and 30 briefs plus a few other items in one load, and there was room for more. One of the nice features is that you can choose how many times you want to rinse. You can also stop the machine and open the door any time during the wash cycle, which is so convenient. There are so many other neat futures you may have read from somewhere else.I am very happy with this machine so far. Hope it will last for a long time without running into any issues. Since the machine is so compliated, I bought 5 year extended warranty just to be ready. If there is one thing I wish the manufacturer could change, it is the rubber sealer. I did a lot of research before making my decision. I found the only thing that other customers complained about or had concerns about is the smell of the machine. Some speculated it was the mildew. I found out the smell comes from the rubber sealer. Wonder if it will go away as time goes by. It does have a strong smell. I had to keep the door open when not using the machine to keep the inside dry from growing mildew, also to let the smell out. The truth is that I did not smell anything on my cloths as a few others complained. I would have given it a 5 star if not for the smell. Still, even with the smell, I wanted to give it a 4.5 star if I had that option. This is truely a great washer, and I got it from Homedepot at a great price of less than $900 when it was on sale. One more thing. The machine comes with the rubber hoses for cold and hot water. I had to spend $25 to buy a pair of stainless steel hose.
