awesome capability - washer & dryer matched pair -downgrade to 1 star

This washer-dryer combo makes the chore fun. Amazing capability and flexibility for washing/drying small to giant loads. The spin cycle is REALLY fast, so clothes take very little time in the dryer. I'm amazed when the washer says - "communicating load information to dryer" and the dryer display says "receiving load information from washer" - I didn't know this feature was part of the package. The canned cycles are numerous and can be over-ridden with whatever choice you would like. Controls are intuitive and allow stopping early in the wash cycle if the forgotten item needs to go in.This was also my first experience with a gas dryer and the conversion to propane - it is not simple or cheap but can be done by a qualified appliance service person. DON'T buy at a big box store if you need a propane dryer! HD was absolutely clueless and had to take a Samsung pair back.The optional base is well made (vs some competitors) and places the doors at just the right height - no bending over to load.3 Year update - The door latch has been a disaster. Adjusted once by GE, then the whole door and front panel assembly was replaced. Now the latch has fallen off. A very bad design by GE - to save a few pennies the screws for the latch go into thin plastic - no wonder they have failed. Also, the screws holding the switch/latch assembly are loose. We've never touched them so BAD design or the service guy screwed up.The latch slowly started to fail over a year the first time, closing the door had to be done "just right" or the latch would not lock.Also, we note the cycle times reported by the computer inside are about 50% less than actual clock time.

Great Washer

So I was looking for a really good washer dryer combo for the next 10 or so years and after lots of research I landed in the camp of the GE Profile Series. I love the fact that the dryer and washer can steam clothing and the Overnight Ready feature is awesome. Say for instance it is 9:30 on a Thursday night and you've forgotten that you can wear that great pair of jeans the next day (Friday being jeans day and all) but you do not want to start the wash only to have to move/wake-up to place the jeans in the dryer. The washer will actually wash small loads of clothing and dry them for you over-night.., yes you read that correctly. The washer will actually DRY the clothing. This is only for 1 to 5 pieces of clothing and not big loads.The one thing I was really worried about was imbalances. I did a great deal of web research before plunking down my money and numerous people have problems with the machine constanly attempting to rebalance itself. I started having balance issues on my 3rd day of ownership and I was getting nervous. I purchased from Best Buy and I was so nervouse I was thinking of having them come and get the pair. Well.., I decided to go thru the manual for solutions and one thing stood out... DO NOT WASH SINGLE ITEMS. Once I followed that one rule, no problem, the 1300rpm spin has the clothes coming out feeling almost dry in some instances and they dry really fast. I was not crazy about not be able to wash a single piece of clothing and before all you green-ers attack me, I am a single very busy man and yes I have been known to run a machine for a single piece of gear... My House, My Money :)Realistically speaking I got past not being able to wash single items quickly as it is just not something that occurs on a regular basis.The machines are worth every penny. My neighbor came by and noticed them a couple of days ago and she was blown away by all the built in presets. I must be getting old, I had a good looking woman over and I'm showing her my washing machines cycles.., LOLHope this helps someone come to a decision.
