4true cooking range
By Cyborg
FTQ387LWGXI was looking for range I could use for cooking and baking for about 6 months now. I bought Samsung FTQ387LWGX and I am very pleased with it. I came to US from Europe and I was not able to get range that makes sense for some time and my old 70's GE was falling apart. Let's cut down to the chase and list what it is that makes this Samsung FTQ387LWGX so special.1. 2 single stage regular cooking elements for regular simmering.2. 1 double stage element heating up very fast like for boiling water.3. 1 triple stage element for cooking on big pots or oversized frying pan4. Warming element for keeping mashed potatoes or gravy hot.5. Top cooking elements come on full blast in about 15 seconds.6. knobs are solid heavy cast metal, not some plastic replica7. digi display for over is true touch with hard Lexan cover screen, not some ziplock joke soft plastic membrane like many others.8. convection bake for bread that works like good old Italian pizza oven9. proof for rising bread10. convection roast for meat and poultry that works like rotisserie11. regular bake traditional with hidden element for close container baking12. broil for top meat top sizzle and Brie / Camembert over bread melting13. convection over so quiet you cannot hear the fans14. warming drawer with sturdy construction not some wimpy make-believe15. solid steel one piece back not some combination of sharp corner plates16. true stainless heavy oven doors and handle not some look-alike plasticI was looking at Electrolux and Bosch, both nice units, and decided after close examination that Electrolux is too much of the Star Trek with potential problem if main board gets zapped and Bosch is too much of the plastic (so disappointed as I like the brand). I do use kitchen range to make my meal, not to just impress my friends. Never the less, Samsung FTQ387LWGX will still let you impress your friends, as it blends with GE and many others. If you are on the market for a range that will look certain way but you are only interested in boiling eggs and reheating baked beans, then this is not for you. Not a big deal, we all have our preferences. However if you are one of those people like me who need decent, heavy-duty, working and hi-tech range for preparing professionally seasoned tasty meal for one or sometimes fancy dinner for six, then you may want to have a look at this unit, just watch model "FTQ387LWGX". Samsung as manufacturer makes four varieties of these now, some budget, and to get all the goodies as specified, you need to trace this model to the letter.

1A CLEANING NIGHTMARE!!!
By whpacejr
We purchased our Samsung Freestanding Electronic Range (model FTQ387LWGX) on 10/21/2010. For the first 2-months, we were very satisfied with this product and we often ran the steam clean and self-clean functions to keep our oven looking shiny and new. The problem came when we cooked a dinner on New Year's Day 2011 which included an 11lb turkey in a roasting pan and later some side dishes. When my wife cleaned the kitchen that evening, she decided to run the self clean function as there appeared to be some grease that splattered on the sides of the oven and on the door and glass. To our horror, after the self clean cycle was finished, we discovered hundreds of DARK GREASE STREAKS that run down the length of and INSIDE/BETWEEN the glass on the oven door that cannot be reached through normal cleaning! We had never experienced this problem until we cooked a big meal (i.e., turkey) in the oven. I went to the Samsung.com website and searched for a solution. There I saw that another customer had written about this same problem and was seeking a solution from Samsung. The Samsung answer to this consumer on the website was to disassemble the door to clean the glass and to call 1-800-Samsung for assistance. I called Samsung today, the first business day after the holidays. The first line support person initially told me to "stick some paper bewteen the glass to clean the grease off." Can you imagine?!? Out of disbelief I asked her to repeat what she said. She immediately put me on hold to speak to a supervisor. When she came back, she told me that her supervisor said that the grease between the glass "was considered physical damage and they would have to send someone out to take care of it!" Furthermore, I was told that I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR SAID SERVICE! I demanded to talk to her supervisor, Jarvis, the "Installation Manager." Jarvis told me the same thing. When I asked Jarvis if he would ever buy this oven if he knew he would have this problem or if he knew the only solution was for a technician to come out to disassemble and clean the door--a "service" he would be charged for--he, not surprisingly, said "no." Yet, that is EXACTLY what Samsung expects of us, the consumers, to do! I demanded to talk to Jarvis' boss, the Samsung Operations Manager. I was told he was not in but that he would contact me tomorrow. I will wait to see what happens tomorrow, but it is apparent that Samsung has no viable solution to this built in problem which I suspect is caused by the Surround Airvection with its multiple multi-fan system that circulates the air. What else could explain so much grease inside/between the door glass? In anticipation of not getting any satisfaction out of Samsung (I can tell by their arrogant answers and the way I was spoken to on the phone) I called Lowes, the store where I purchased the oven. Lowes has agreed to work with me to replace the oven with another brand/model if need be. I suggested to Lowes that they contact Samsung corporate to complain about this product and to complain about the damage Samsung is doing to their consumer base by treating the consumer so poorly and expecting the us to pay for their engineering failure.SAMSUNG: THE ISSUE WITH THIS PRODUCT AND YOUR "SOLUTION" IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!CONSUMER, DO NOT FOR ANY REASON EVEN CONSIDER PURCHASING THIS PRODUCT, THE SAMSUNG FREESTANDING ELECTRIC RANGE FTQ387LWGX.

5I Absolutely LOVE this Range!
By T. Jackson
There are not many good reviews on this site for this product so I wanted to add my input, since most people only leave reviews when they are dissatisfied. I have had this Range for about 5 weeks now and I just LOVE IT! I was really afraid of it when I purchased it and first used it because of all the reviews about how hard it is to keep clean and how easily it scratches. I have found that it absolutely shows splatters much more than my old coil range with the white top. It just made me realize how little I actually cleaned my old one because I couldn't see the splatters. Also, my old range had a black plastic top part that was very difficult to clean period. The top on this one is stainless and very easy to wipe down and the knobs are made of heavy stainless steel, not some cheap plastic. Also, the control panel has a lock button on it so you can wipe it down without accidentally pressing buttons. I use Dawn dishwashing detergent to clean the cooktop and find that while I am cleaning more often, it's not a big deal to keep clean. Dawn cuts the grease, plus I don't have to clean under the burners and around the ring of the coils. It heats quickly and I find no problem with the "low" temperature burning things. I appreciate the lights that tell which burner is lit, although you can just look at the knobs to see which one is not directly upright. I LOVE the two front burners that can accommodate various sized pots and pans. The warming burner has also been very handy. This is my first smooth top range and was very worried about scratching it but I haven't found that I have to use it any differently than my old coil burner range. The only thing I haven't done yet is use my cast Iron skillet as the bottom of it is not completely flat. I LOVE the convection oven! The entire oven itself is so much larger than my old one and I have had a lot of fun baking cookies, cornbread, homemade pizza and loaves of bread that come out perfectly in the convection oven and looking forward to making other things as well. I LOVE that the oven beeps to let you know when it's heated to the proper temperature and you can see at any time what temperature it is at. I must agree with another reviewer who said the oven racks seem to tilt when fully extended outward. That has me a little worried about putting anything too heavy on a rack while it's fully extended. I did a lot of research before purchasing this from Best Buy and was very happy to find this was the one with the most features for the money as I also have the Samsung four door, french door refrigerator and LOVE it! At first I didn't think I would use the warming drawer but have come to love it also. The oven heats much faster than my old Amana and the oven door window is HUGE! The lighting inside is also very good. The steam cleaning feature works well for me also. We got this Range on sale and my husband (who is not much of a cook) has even been excited to try it out. This is a BEAUTIFUL Appliance that instantly adds a touch of class to the kitchen and is very functional, with every feature I could ever imagine but never knew existed! I would definitely recommend this range to anyone looking for a smooth top with all the bells and whistles.
