far, it's wonderful
By William F. Lenihan
I have only had the Allavino wine cooler for two weeks. The shipment and delivery were prompt. The installation is simple, plug it in and set the temperature. The instructions and warranty are on one of the shelves rather than in the packing slip envelope. The cooler operates quietly and functions well. My cooler is rated for 107 bottles, but I managed to shelve nearly 7 full cases with a trial and error approach.

Nice unit but 107 bottles means really packing them in
By Paul Kimelman
The cellar/refer arrived in one giant box, all assembled. No damage but most shelves were knocked loose, which is OK since they are adjustable. This thing weighs almost 200 pounds and so to move it to the location I needed, I ended up taking off the door (which is very heavy) and removing the shelves so I could maneuver the rest of it easily (through narrow passages and over stairs). Was easy enough - take off top with a few screws and then loosen screws holding door hinge pin and it pops out.The unit is quiet and cools well (as far as I can tell). My old unit (which no longer can get below 60F) was much slower to change temp. Not sure if faster is good since the worst thing you can do to wine is change temp quickly. But, it seems to distribute the cooling onto the whole back and not onto the top bottles. But, the only way to get to 107 bottles is to really jam them in and I am not sure many common 750mL bottles could ever be packed that much. The instructions say you can get 8 bottles per shelf flat, but many of my 750mL bottles are fatter than they must assume so I can only get 7 (6 front/back and 1 sideways in front). With 8 shelves plus the bottom, 8 per shelf is only 64 bottles. The bottom is tall enough you can stack quite a few, so you can get to maybe 80. But, to get to 107, you need to pile on more. But, that is not an option with many of the 750mL bottles I have. With the narrower bottles, you can stack them (so 6 front/back, then 5 more on top of those and then 1 or 2 in front), but as I say, much of the CA wine is in the wider bottle which takes up more space in all directions. The shelves are adjustable, but there are a fixed number and a finite amount of space, so making the shelves farther apart to allow stacking only helps so much (and then you lose a shelf). So, seems like a decent unit for the price, but don't plan on 107 bottles unless you buy the narrow bottles only.To give an example, the Yorkville cellars bottles are as narrow as they must assume (so I can get 13 on a shelf packed in), but ZD and most Grgich bottles are much wider and you cannot get more than 6 or 7 in with the normal spacing of the shelves.I do like the slide out shelves and they come out to full extension so you can see all of the bottles easily.

love it
By Joel
beautiful unit with lots of space although I question fitting 107 btls of wine in the unit safely. the first one they sent had some dings and shelving issues but the company was good enough to send me a new unit within a week. very happy with it. the unit is quiet and seems to hold the 55 degrees that I set it at.
