4Welcome to the future!
By chiliu78
I read the first and only review on this product and I can almost guarantee that reviewer doesn't even own one. First, the "smell". It's a new product. I didn't notice any smell. It's probably the smell of the Home Depot he checked out this washer at. As for parts not lasting - I'm not sure where this person came up with that one. I would like to read some more details about his/her experience on these unreliable parts. Third, expensive parts. This is a premium product. It's like buying a Mercedes over a Chevy. But to be more realistic, appliance parts are expensive to begin with. I've never heard anyone say "wow, the part for my washer/dryer was dirt cheap!".Now for the review itself: We upgraded both the washer and dryer with the Samsung products and couldn't be happier. The number of options and modes that it allows you to chose when washing clothes is just unbelievable. The touchscreens are huge and very visible. The washing/drying is extremely quiet. I actually had to go back a few times to check if the machines were even on because they were so quiet! The ability to connect the units to wifi and your smartphones is an added convenience. You have the ability to control the units via inside the house using your smartphone or in a remote location. Some people may say this is a stupid idea but realistically, it's an added "convenience" and for some, they will benefit greatly from this feature.I plan on writing another review after a couple of weeks to see how things hold up. So far, so good. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It's quite surprising how far washers and dryers have come even from 5 years ago.Update (09/13/2013): Still loving the washer but discovered a big oops on my part. I threw into the washer a soaking wet towel. When I mean soaking wet, I could have squeezed about 2 cups of water from it. Anyway, I put it in the washer and just left it there for a few hours without running it and long and behold, the washer leaked the water out and onto the floor. Now, before you see this as a flaw: Front loading washers have a huge mold problem. Fortunately, this washer has not had that problem. So the keep the washer mold free, it has to "open" everything up inside to let it breath. With that said, if I were to dump a bucket of water into the washer without it actually being on or on wash mode, the washer itself wouldn't know and the water would leak right out. So this is totally not the washer's fault. It was my stupid mistake. Who leaves a soaking wet towel in a washer anyway? Right there you're already asking for mold/mildew problems.

5Much Better Than Expected
By Henry S.
I bought the washer dryer pair almost 2 years ago (looks exactly the same, but slightly different model number). I have been very pleased with it. I was hesitant to purchase a more expensive high efficiency washer because I wasn't sure if the gentle motions would clean as well as a normal cheap washer. Well it has cleaned everything I have thrown at it, and the flip side is that my expensive clothes have barely faded at all. This has saved me hundreds of dollars on clothes because I work in an office and have to dress professionally. This is in addition to the noticeable drop in my electric bill (my electric company sends weekly emails with usage charts and I no longer see spikes during the hours when I do laundry). One family member who lives on campus about 1.5 hours away will bring her clothes here just to avoid using the conventional washer at her campus apartment. The reasons she gives include the Samsung being more gentle on her school clothes, she doesn't like to hear the noise of the washer in her apartment, and she likes the "Sanitize" feature for her medical scrubs. The only negatives I have are that I use the gentle/delicate cycle when washing the expensive clothes, but it forces me to use the low spin speed which extends the dry time slightly. At the same time, the dryer automatically shuts off when it detects no moisture so there's no extra dry time compared to my old dryer that ran until the timer finished. Also, when drying my king size sheets they sometimes ball up even with the "Bedding Plus" option. If I don't check and unwrap them, the center of the ball will still be wet when the cycle finishes.I did have one scare in the first few weeks. The washer worked but it would accumulate a pool of water when sitting for a couple of days. I called and Samsung sent a technician. It turns out it was because the Best Buy installers barely opened the water valve. It's not intuitive, but he said it was because there was no water pressure. All he did was turn on the water valve and was on his way in a couple of minutes--it was under warranty so he didn't charge me anything. I have had ZERO problems since then. I did learn that the Samsung support was very courteous and professional, but I was left wondering why they couldn't have suggested opening the valve over the phone?

5Samsung washers are in a class by themselves
By Kem E. Miller
I currently own the Samsung front-loading washer and dryer - VRT steam models. I do not own the latest PowerFoam models. However, I can attest to the superior quality of the equipment. I will elaborate on the washer, as the dryer has a very basic function and it performs similarly to other clothes dryers. The washing machine is an example of outstanding engineering and execution. It is not meant to be the cheapest washer on the market and it is built like a tank. There is virtually no shake even when the machine is spinning at the highest RPM's. It is virtually silent. There are virtually unlimited options when setting your personal preferences. You can stop the cycle, add or remove clothes, then resume the cycle. The clothes, especially the whites cycled with very hot ("sanitary" temp setting) water and steam - are extremely clean but never abused. I have only one minor complaint, and perhaps this has been improved on the current models, and this is the fact that when detergent is added, it seems to directly leak into the tank before the wash cycle has started. This doesn't seem to be right, so if this is part of the execution of the washer then I am mistaken about this point. Overall, the washer is amazing. It is the best performing appliance of any kind that I have ever purchased. I often refer to it (when speaking with friends) as a work of art instead of an appliance. I have recommended the washer/dryer to several friends who have now purchased the set, and every single person loves them. When it is time for me to be a replacement (or additional) washer and dryer, I will look at no other brand as I am 100% sold on these Samsung products. Very well done Samsung. Highly highly recommended. One final note - another review here has a 1-star review. It would be absolutely impossible for any sane person to give this washer such a low rating, so the reviewer obviously has a personal issue with Samsung or companies who sell their products. There is no evidence that the reviewer even owns this product. Buy this washer - you won't be disappointed. And no, I am NOT a Samsung paid advertiser or blogger - I just believe in giving credit where credit is due.
