Tanita BC-548 Ironman
By livevital
This scale is used in a busy PT clinic and the Body Composition measurements are used as a benchmark for many training clients. I was looking for something that is easy to administer and better than caliper testing. This scale serves that purpose. That said, I think there tends to be significant variation in body fat measurements between an "athletic" male or female and a standard male or female value. I have contacted technical support and discussed the variation as it is possible to drop 8.5 to 10% body fat just by labeling yourself as "athletic". There is a suggested guideline that the tested individual have a resting heart rate of 60bpm and participate in vigorous exercise near 10 hours per week. The rest is left up to "proprietary" calculations that cannot be discussed with the consumer. In summary, this is a nice tool to establish benchmark values for a client in a test/re-test scenario to monitor progress over time but it will have significant variation over time and may be best used as a "snap shot" test over time.

Good product

I like this product. I write down the stats, track the results in Excel. The only thing that is iffy is the number that tells your body type. It basically takes the numbers and guestimates - a lot. Other then that it is a great product.I love the weight, body fat, and muscle weight.I recommend this for anyone who wants to track more then weight. If you are working out a lot and not losing weight it could be because you are gaining muscle. This will tell you.

Tanita scale
By ARBadger
Tons of features & works great. I just wish it was as easy to use as the Tanita I bought 12 years ago. You cannot simply activate the scale with your foot. You have to scroll through memory buttons and then set the scale using two buttons that cannot be pressed with your toe. Its just a minor inconvenience though. As I mentioned the accuracy and features are much improved from the older model I just got rid of.
