3Fail
By Benhua
Danby Premiere DDR6009REE 60 pint dehumidifier.Worked OK for two summers as a basement dehumidifier, but slowly lost its refrigerant charge. A slow refrigerant leak is insidious in that the unit will progressively spend more and more of its time cycling between "frosting up" and defrosting with less and less time dehumidifying. This can happen over a long period of time, slowly becoming less and less efficient but costing more and more money to run. If you hook up the drain hose then the unit should be a "start and forget" piece of equipment, like they used to be. Not anymore!I should mention, the basement temps never went below the mid 60s to low 70s, so low ambient temps were not the problem. And as I mentioned before the unit was good for two seasons and slowly failed during the third. The last GE dehumidifier that this Danby replaced did the same thing but took a year longer to fail to the point that the problem was recognized. My first dehumidifier lasted 25 years. But then it was "Made in USA," when that mean something. If I remember right, it cost over $200 35 years ago. Expensive back then, but it was reliable. Those days are over, forever.
