Call Kitchenaid - the polycarb pitchers will fit this machine
By M. Williams
I received this as a gift about three weeks ago. This blender has a much more sturdy feel than the 70 dollar Oster Blender I've had for three years (still working)...I make green smoothies daily and that was hard on my Oster, but it did the job without any issues. This blender has VERY large glass container that I like. The other review was spot on about NOT being able to start off slow. There are five speeds. When you load the blender, you have to make sure you have the lid on tight because the blender apparently is programmed to attempt to start off slow but then quickly rev up to high, and this all happens in a nano-second! It doesn't work very well as everything blasts to the top.I do notice that this blender doesn't struggle to blend the greens, carrots I put in it like the Oster did, however, I still find larger bits of carrot in my smoothie that the Oster never had a problem with. As powerful as this blender is, I'm amazed that there are still a few larger bits of carrot in the blender (I even cut the carrot into chunks before putting it in) and let it blend on high speed an additional two minutes and STILL a few larger bits of carrot.Overall I like this blender and I think it will last a long time. Everything is dishwasher safe (except the obvious electric part), which is nice. Very easy to clean. The base is very heavy so no worries about moving around. It is quieter than the Oster on high speed.Hope this helps :) ThanksUPDATE: I figured out WHY this blender was leaving bits of large carrot in my smoothie. I started with the lowest speed and let it stir, then gradually increased the speed and it came out PERFECT! Prior to that I was just using the highest speed. I don't know why I didn't think to do this before........I will say I'm amazed that no matter what I put in it, it needs NO help whatsoever like my previous blender did. And this blender doesn't struggle at all. The more I use this, the more I love it! And it's also a very attractive blender :)*******UPDATE********March 6, 2013I can NOT recommend this blender! I used it daily for two years and it now is NOT usable because of the leaking. I've had small issues with it leaking and I thought it was the seal not being on correctly, but it's NOT the seal, it's coming from under the blade itself and it has gotten progressively WORSE! It's so frustrating because it is a huge mess to clean when you pull the blender off the base and see the mess running out of the bottom. I called Kitchenaid and since it's past the one year warranty (too bad so sad they basically said). The rep I spoke to said she knew about the leaking but I would have to buy the part to which she gave me the part #. I asked if it had be redesigned and she said no. The blender has three pieces. Look at the picture. The BIG nice strong heavy base, the glass pitcher, and in between the black coupling the pitcher screws on to. That's the problem. Do you want to talk about cheap! It's plastic and very delicate and if anything goes wrong with this, the blender will be completely useless. I might have broken down and purchased the part had it been redesigned, but since it's the same crappy design, I will just get a new blender! To be clear, I'm the only one who uses this and I take VERY good care of everything I own.***Update***Mar 8, 2013I decided to call Kitchenaid one more time and explained my situation (without being rude or nasty as that will get you no where) to the rep and she said as a customer satisfaction she would send me a new collar/blade assembly hoping that the leaking would stop - but she did not know if my particular model had been redesigned. She said it's possible that it has and there were plenty in stock, but she didn't see any indication that it has. Here's hoping it has been redesigned, because other than the leaking, this isn't a bad blender at all. If you have purchased this model and have called Kitchenaid with no success, you can always try again. I hope that the new blade assembly doesn't leak.Update Kitchenaid sent me a new polycarb pitcher and wow it's so much better than the glass container with that crappy blade assembly. It fits the uni better and the blender actually is quieter and this pitcher is easy to clean and absolutely does not leak. I'm guessing I got an updated pitcher since I've read they fixed the leaking issue. Kitchenaid CS was really great aside from one of the reps that was of no help.

Awesome blender!
By geekchikwannabe
After parading through several blenders over the past 20 years, we finally found one that does everything we want it to and so much more! It really does crush ice! A real advantage was the additional mini blender jar for small jobs. What a fabulous find just in time for the holidays!! We absolutely love this!

Good - but still disappointing
By txvtchick
Comparing this to my old and much loved Kitchenaid ksb5wh, which lasted for about ten years under heavy daily use. It's not as good, for two reasons:1. It's tricky to put the jar assembly together correctly. There is a movable plastic collar on the bottom of the coupler that needs to collapse in order for the jar to fit on the blender base. The collar doesn't always collapse, even when the jar looks and feels properly assembled. And you need to dump all your ingredients out of the jar before you can fix it. So, you need to put the jar on the blender base before you start adding ingredients, each time you use it, to make sure it will sit correctly.2. The base is larger but less dense than the ksb5. It "walks" a bit on the counter under a heavy load, which ksb5 never did. You could blend a small engine block in the ksb5 and it would come out smooth 'n creamy. On the other hand: it does do a good job of blending, especially ice and frozen fruit. I never get a sense that the engine is overloaded. It's infinitely better than two other blenders that I tried. Before I bought this one, I tried and returned a Cuisinart CBT-700 Die-Cast 700-Watt Blender, and then tried a VIKING VBLG01SG Professional Blender Countertop Appliance - Stainless Gray, which died within a few months. So - good product, just not as good the old one, which is disappointing. This is Kitchenaid's top of the line model, and should be better than one they released ten years ago.
