Holds Alot, but Noisy
By clean clothes
Saw a lot of reviews elsewhere saying this machine was super quiet. It is not. It is quiet during the fill and wash cycles, but it makes a fair amount of noise and vibrations during the drain and spin cycles. I have had to get a mat that goes under exercise equipment to cut down the noise for the downstairs neighbors. This helps, but its still loud during these cycles. It does hold a lot (full set of queen sheets with 4 pillow cases, a shirt, and pair of pants). It rolls fairly easily front to back but to turn it or angle it requires a fair amount of effort. I need to move it to the sink each time I use it.It cleans well and sure beats the foul laundry room in our building or going to the laundromat. It is also quite pricey as portable washers go.

Awesome washer
By jb31
****** UPDATE June 2013 ******Since writing the review below, I moved to a new place, and took this portable washer with me. The new place has laundry connections, and it already had a GE spacemaker combo washer/dryer unit (a discontinued model, maybe 5 years old). I used the combo unit for awhile, to determine which washing machine I preferred. The portable washer won out. The washer in the combo unit was tiny, noisy, and had an agitator, which wasn't as gentle on the clothes. It also didn't spin them dry very well if I used the delicate cycle.Unlike my previous place, where I had this portable washer hooked up to a kitchen sink, I now have it hooked up to the laundry connections, with separate hoses for hot/cold. It works great! I bought 6' stainless steel fill hoses and a new, longer drain hose. They all fit great, no leaks. As another reviewer has pointed out, as long as I don't manually select the temperature, the water fills all of the way to the top when using the extra large load setting. The washer has various "cycle" settings (such as colors, whites, delicates, etc), that have default wash/rinse temperatures. It also has one single "temperature" button that toggles between hot, warm and cold, so that you can adjust the temperature as you prefer (if you have it hooked up to regular laundry connections). As long as I don't touch that button, the fill level is what I would expect. But if I change the default temperature, the water doesn't get much higher than halfway up for the "extra large" setting. So I have to plan my load size accordingly.I've experimented with the "load sensing" feature, and find that it sometimes fills the machine one level below what I would expect. If so, I just adjust the load size manually and it's fine.I bumped my review from 4 stars to 5, because overall I'm very pleased with this machine. It's ridiculously quiet compared to the combo unit I used. It's gentle on the clothes. And I now have a workaround for the "fill level" issue described in my original review. One minor issue, I suppose, is that it does take longer to run through a cycle than some washers. That was the only thing I liked better about the combo unit. The combo unit took about 30 minutes to wash the largest load size. This machine takes about 50 minutes to wash the "extra large" load size and about 40 minutes to wash the smallest. Unless you choose the "speed wash" option which is meant for washing one or two lightly soiled items, per the manual. (That cuts the "extra large" wash time to 35 minutes)And a side note: Now that I have a normal drain hose (instead of the sink connection), I put a lint filter over the end of the hose, to see how effective the lint filter inside the washer drum really is. (After doing a washload, there's always a small amount of lint that is clinging to the drum behind the filter, so I assumed a little bit of lint also went out the drain hose) After about 10 washloads, I checked the filter on the hose, and there was a small amount of lint in there. The inside lint filter catches most of it, but wouldn't hurt to have a filter over the hose as well, if you have a regular laundry connection.I've written separate reviews for the matching dryer and the "stack rack" accessory.****** ORIGINAL REVIEW July 2012 ******I'd previously purchased a Haier portable washer, but had nothing but trouble and ended up returning it. After reading multiple positive reviews of this GE machine, I forked over the extra money and bought one.The pros:- No leaks!- Quiet- Very solid, good quality, fabulous-looking machine- Large for a portable washer, yet easy to maneuver- Very easy to attach and unattach from the faucet.- For the single-faucet connection, the hoses have an excellent design. The intake hose and the drain hose are connected, and the draining water comes out of the faucet extension. So unlike the Haier, the drain hose isn't dangling in your sink.- Lint filter inside the machine. No need to buy filters for your drain hose. One potential con:The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is, the water level doesn't seem to be quite sufficient. I haven't seen this issue in any other review that I've read, so I plan to call GE to inquire. Maybe there's a technical issue with my machine. The machine has a load-sensing feature, but it also has five water levels - ranging from extra small to extra large - which supposedly override the load sensor if you manually select them. I've only had the washer 2 days and have done four loads, always manually selecting the water level. I've run it with the medium as well as extra large water level. Even with the water level set at "extra large," after the machine fills at the beginning of the wash cycle, the water does not completely cover the clothes. The top layer of clothes (or towels, or whatever) is partly sticking up above the water. And I'm not overloading the machine either, not even close. Once the wash cycle begins, the clothes get rotated around, but if I open the door at any point, some of the items are partly sticking out above the water level. This is not what I'm used to. When the machine fills up for the rinse cycle, it fills higher. But, in the end, the clothes don't smell quite as fresh as when I've run them through the community laundry machines, so I'm wondering if it's the water level during the washing. I had a technician come out and replace the part that controls the fill level, but that didn't make any difference.

Fantastic
By S. Scheide
This machine is kind of pricey, but it is SO easy to hook up and use, I think it's worth it. It holds a ton--I believe it's nearly full sized. It's quiet, doesn't jump around, and does a great job cleaning. The filter is easy to clean and replace, and the detergent/fabric softener dispenser works really well. This is my second portable washer, and the difference between the first one (a different brand) and this one is night and day. This literally takes 10 seconds to hook up (one you move it to your sink). Takes about 30 second to drain the pressure out, disconnect, and let the water drip out of the hose when you want to put it away. I'm absolutely thrilled with this machine! Don't let the price keep you from this machine. My condo building has laundry, but it's three flights and one building over, and I was sick of it! I'm also sick to death of collecting quarters. If you are too, this machine is the one.
