How did I do without this?
By sheepdog momma
We are now a micro-wave-less household so I have been buying appliances to bake, cook, reheat, keep things warm. This cooker does everything it says. I put in meat, veggies, a tiny bit of broth, seasonings, turn it on and 2 hours later, dinner is ready. Or, I make yogurt. It makes the best kitchari - light and fluffy, same when you use it as a rice cooker.Recommendations:1. purchase silicone tongs to lift the stubby clay pot lid off. It is hard to grasp with traditional oven mitts, too hot to handle with bare fingers. I also purchased a silicone hot pad to set the clay lid on, because it can crack if you put it on a cold, wet surface.2. put a rubber or silicone mat in your sink when you wash the clay pot to protect if from accidental bumps.Fabulous product.

I LOVE this!!! UPDATE
By Laura C
*****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Yes! I am still happy with my VitaClay***** I'm mostly making soups and grains this winter because I discovered something really yummy. This percentage --1/4 quinoa and 3/4 millet (soak overnight and drain first)-- creates a very fluffy texture that tastes a bit like corn--and we've been having this with every possible topping. Raw butter and porcini mushroom powder. Walnut parsley miso-pesto, Grated raw goat cheese with caramelized onions...and the list goes on. VitaClay makes it easy to cook at home.****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************Our whole family loves the VitaClay pot. We use it almost every night. It's fast, easy and the food really does taste richer and more flavorful. I'm always thrilled --we kind of gather around the pot-- to lift the lid and see perfect rice or quinoa---We even shipped one to our daughter in college. She uses it to make millet and quinoa. Her recipe: cook the organic grains with a bit of celtic or mineral salt and add few dried dates and figs on top when it's warming to soften them. She serves it with raw butter, heavy cream and cinnamon. And it truly is a miracle. I've been trying to perfect quinoa, various brown rices and had given up on ever having good millet until we discovered the VitaClay. Also, I recently found out I can germinate brown rice on the low temperature yogurt setting. We have made yogurt a few times, but we mainly use it for grains, rich soups and bone broth. It's very fast, easy and very little clean-up.With some experimenting, I've found that rice needs less water when it's soaked/germinated. Same for soaked quinoa---but not millet. Millet require much more water--soaked or not. But after six months, I can eye it and get perfect texture almost every time. You really can just push a button if you are making grains, stews and soups. Since I soak and sprout my grains, it's taken some note-taking. Also a bit of upfront time to learn how to set the programmable timer. At this point, it is an essential tool in my kitchen. I love the Warming feature! To just leave it on warm--and at the perfect temperature for serving, or to steam-soften dried fruits or veggies.Today I used my Vita Clay to make a Chinese Remedy for Vitality and Immunity for the winter. It has Astragalus, chinese dried dates and goji berries...and I may even mix it with the beef bone broth I made in the cooker. My pot has been very inspirational --sparking my creativity in the kitchen with herbs, grains and recipes that were so time consuming in past--all now so much faster and easier to do. I've even pulled out my copy of Nourishing Traditions to remind myself--cook real food for real nutrition. And last but not least, I am glad it is natural unglazed clay-- it's the reason I selected it over other options--I especially did not want to ever have a rice cooker that was aluminum. So I just have to be more careful with it.

No more power after several uses
By Yi Ma
I just bought this product for three weeks. It worked perfectly for the first several times. Then one day after I used the rice cooker, it beeped indicating it is finished. However, it didn't go to warm function but went back to the clock. I didn't realize that it was due to the bad power connection. Similar thing happened once as I noticed the cooker stopped working but after I pushed the plug more into the outlet, it started cooking again. But this time no matter how I push the plug or move it in the outlet, it still won't start as no beep can ever be heard now. I called the customer service and the lady told me that might be due to the bad connection as many people called about this. This should be the problem I got the first time but I am sure it is not this time. So I am gonna send it to the company for repair. It is rare that rice cookers/slow cookers have this kind of connection problem as my old cookers were good regarding connection but I just don't like to use non-sticky ones anymore. I didn't see the same problem reported by other reviewers not only for this one but also for the 6-cup one, so I guess it is just my bad luck. I still love how it cooks and I enjoyed the food I got from the clay pot esp the texture of meats! It cooks the beans so well. I hope I won't have the same problem again after the repair. Will update after get it back. If you ever has similar issue, please let me know how you got over it.update: it turned out to be the power cord's problem. It is kind of rare that the power cord is bad. I got the replacement of the cord. Hope this time it won't get bad. Still using it everyday. If you have concerns about the product, it is fine but the customer service is very kind and if you product is under warranty, there should be no problem. I saw people have problem with the pot. I am doing well with it. If you are careful with temperature and handling as mentioned in the manual, you should be fine.update: Now the cooker has been working fantastically after the new cord arrived. It cooks better flavored and textured meat than my pressure cooker and regular sauce pot. A small area of the bottom of the pot black probably due to burning? I actually don't have problem with rice cooking when the cooked rice was left at the warm stage simple by leaving the rice in the pot for 5-10 min after switching the cooker off. I did see the skin was stuck on the bottom when I cooked chicken but I am not annoyed by that. I will try the tip provided in the manual on how to clean the burnt food. I love it.
