Not against the wall

I just received this trash can, and it does seem to be as nice as they say, but it is not true that "the slim profile hinge allows it to fit close against the wall," as the product description states. The hinge projects about an inch from the back, but to keep the top from banging the wall, or to be able to use the locked-open position, the can has to be another 3/4 inch further away from the wall. PLUS, the back of the can is curved, so the back corners are about 3 inches away from the wall, making it appear (especially in my small kitchen) that the can is floating out into the room.I will have to go to the store to see if I can find any trash cans that fit better; if not I will need to put some kind of block between the can and the wall so it won't inch back into a range where the top will be banging.Update-- I got this one, which fits flush against the wall:simplehuman CW1950 10-Gallon Rectangular-Shaped Step Can, Stainless.

The perfect trash can

I have the 10.5 gallon version of this can which I purchased at a popular 'bed & bath' store. Like other Simplehuman products, it is very well designed and has a quality that provides me with a pride of ownership that is singularly strange considering it is a trash can... But what a can it is: the 'no touch' foot pedal works perfectly every time, the can seals tightly shut when closed keeping odors inside where they belong, the can has brilliant aesthetics and fits with my kitchen's stainless appliances seamlessly; the can is well designed all the way around. It's easy for me to recommend this trash can even at the relatively high price. In this case, you most definitely 'get what you pay for.'

I'm the type of person who can't buy anything without researching everything from amazon reviews through consumer reports ratings, and admittedly, I didn't find much on this disposal unit. That said, I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond one evening where you can find a multitude of simplehuman products and accessories. I looked at the large stainless steel cans and all of the other options available and concluded that this trash bin was the best option available. I like the fingerproof feature and the fact that it blends very nicely with all of the other stainless steel appliances in our kitchen. The slow closing lid is a feature that goes unnoticed but is very nice compared to the clanking sounds I noticed out of other stainless steel cans at some of the home improvement stores--there are options with plastic sound retardants that eliminate this problem (available in othe simplehuman models as well). The lid overlaps nicely and the pullout bin makes it easy to remove and replace the bags--forceflex works in these though you might want to look into large rubber bands which were recommended in another review and are available at staples, office depot, etc. I don't use rubber bands and my bags stay in place--there is a hole in the back that allows for the can to breathe and eliminate the air buildup when you first put a bag in the can. The can won't eliminate odors--still waiting for that technology...lol...though a good way to do so is to put vegetable trimmings in the the green bags (hopefully everybody uses these now). Overall I'm satisfied with this purchase and have improved my rating with my wife by half a star which now gives me a one half star rating...lol. This is worth the money--if you want to save wait for the 30% monthly flier from BBB and get it there.
