Love my shinco 12000btu A/C

I purchased my Shinco 12,000 BTU Portable AC from ebay.com. Amazon has the same price. I just thought that if anything went wrong it might be easier to return to a local store. I received the ac within 2 days of ordering in great condition. It was nicely packaged. After I cut the shipping straps off I wondered how in the world I would get the unit out of the box without turning it on its side (which is not recommended). I quickly found that the box lifts off of its base for easy removal of the unit. Very nice! I wheeled the unit into my 18' X 20' bedroom and was pleased to see that not many pieces were involved in its assembly. The instructions are not clear at all as to how you attach the hose to the other two pieces. It just says to do it. I tried snapping the connections onto the hose, then prying the connections onto the hose. Tried to use a flat head screw driver and ended up putting a hole in the hose, whoops! Luckily its at the very end so it doesn't affect anything. Finally found that you screw the connections on. It was super easy to do once I figured that out! Yay!! I easily installed the window plate. It's really nice because I rent & I didn't want to have to use screws in the window frame. The home is old and has ancient wood frame windows that raise up and down. I stuck weather stripping onto the window plate itself to create a good seal. The part that connects to the window plate kept popping out because of the drop from the window sill to where the plate sits. So I added another strip of weather stripping to the base of the window plate and that fixed the problem. Connecting the hose to the back of the unit took just a second and wah la, I'm done!! I am a single mom with no man to help and I was able to install this unit all by myself which I'm so ecstatically happy about!! The unit cools beautifully and works perfectly!! I've only had it for less than a week so I'll keep you informed if anything goes wrong. Thanks for reading, I hope my review helps!!!

After seeing some of the introduction about the Shinco AC/Heater I was a bit reluctant to spend several hundred dollars on it. I was also concerned because I'd heard for years how heat pumps do not work well in humid climates. But there was nothing else with this unit's promised functionality at a price close to this one ,so I went ahead and bought it. I have had it in place in my bedroom now. I am in Dallas where besides routine 95-102 degree temps, the humidity is rarely less than 80%. This unit runs almost continuously taking care of two rooms, about 460 sq ft total. I usually run it on the lowest fan speed. Fan speed does not seem to make a lot of difference in the amount of cold or hot air flowing though noise level definitely increases. I must admit that there were only a few days during the winter when I used the heat function. But both AC and heat work great. Be aware that this unit does suck a lot of water out of the air and you will definitely need the fluid overflow venting outside. The unit is very low so on a first floor installation I had to make a small platform about 5 inches high on which to place the unit so the fluid hose could be run out through the wall. I had to buy a small diameter plastic hose and clamp it on with a small hose clamp. Only odd thing I've found is that the swinging louvers, which do work fine, swing further to one side than the other. You can manually push them further when they are not swinging. Also, clean the filter every couple of weeks. It is sucking in a lot of air and catching a lot of dust.

We have never had air conditioning in our house. It is very open except the bedrooms. We placed this unit in a central location and it cools the whole main floor very nicely! Very easy to vent and set up. So glad we made the purchase.
