5Massive Quality Commercial Blender
By Altar Boy
Let me say first that I know something about quality blenders. I started out in the 90's with a Waring stainless steel bar blender (with only an on and off switch) that lasted for 15 happy margarita years. In 2007 I purchased from Amazon a Blendtec Home 3 horsepower blender ([...]) for $415. It is a programmed blender that takes out the guesswork on how to blend smoothies, soups, ice cream, juices etc. I first saw this blender on U-Tube eating a first generation Iphone to dust. When I don't know how to blend a certain food product I fall back on my Blendtec. It does a wonderful job. HOWEVER, when I put my beloved Blendtec next to my new Omega BL420S it looks like Bill Bixby next to the Incredible Hulk. [Makes me wonder if Tim Allen designed it on one of his "Home Improvement" episodes.] While the Blendtec is stylish and fits easily under my kitchen cabinets, The Omega has a larger footprint and needs a taller space. The Omega BL 420S has a 64 ounce blending jar (as does the Blendtec), but the Omega has a massive base about twice the size of the Blendtec. Oddly both have 3 HP motors and use around 1500 watts. The Blendtec has a lighter less impressive blending jar and the Omega has a "heavier duty" blending jar with a massive blending jar base. I have already burned up one Blendtec blending jar and bought a second one just in case. I don't think I will have the same problem with the omega blending jar . . . it looks like it would last for 50 years. However there is always the risk of broken or bent blending blades which is every blending jars achilles heel. The Omega basically has an "off" and "on" switch and a "hi" and "low" speed switch. It was obviously designed to be used in a commercial setting like a bar. The Blendtec has "home" in its name so it was designed for home use with many many settings and pre programmed settings. However, the more you learn to blend the more you really only need a few settings and an on and off switch. I found in many preparations with the Blendtec by-passing all the programming and just turning it on at a low speed and using a high speed to finish off for fine blending. I like the simplicity of the Omega just fine and it is priced right at $340 ($60 cheaper than the Blendtec). If you think you might need a larger blending jar the Omega BL 430S has a 82 Oz jar. Need a pulse switch too - the BL 440 and 450 have that (with either a 64 Oz or 82 Oz jar, respectively). Also if you have to have a gradual variable speed setting the BL 460 and 470 have that with a pulse switch (with either a 64 Oz or 82 Oz jar, respectively), and the BL 480 and 490 have a variable speed knob with a timer knob(with either a 64 Oz or 82 Oz jar, respectively). The added features of larger jar, pulse, timer and variable speed can add up to an additional $200 to the cost of the Omega. I can't imagine what the 82 Oz jar looks like or where I would fit it in my kitchen!I tested the Omega BL420S with what I consider a "tough" smoothie - my frozen mango, banana, kale, OJ smoothie. What makes it tough is the frozen mango. Mango has fibers holding the flesh together. When it is frozen it is like trying to blend hard rubber. Well my Blendtec blending jar burned out on one of those smoothies. So with trepidation I attempted to make it with the Omega. No problem. Within 45 seconds the hard frozen Tommy Atkins mango blended down to a semi-frozen liquid. So if you want a tough commercial quality blender consider the Omega Commercial 3 HP series benders. Looks like I will be enjoying it for years to come.As always if something happens over time to this appliance I will attempt to add an Addendum to this review and let you know what happened. I appreciate other reviewers who do the same. Looks like a winner!!!

3VitaMix vs. This Omega Blender...VitaMix Wins
By ccincalif
Although I've owned a VitaMix for many years (you'll find my review here on Amazon) and I still love it and use it sometimes more than once a day (with no problems, I might add) I thought that my love affair might be over, since receiving this new Omega BL 4205 Blender. The blender jar is what did it for me-I loved the look of it, and it is much nicer than the Vitamix container, however, that's where it ends. Nothing else about this product has sold me, and I initially had a problem when it first arrived, which didn't help matters. This is what happened:Omega blender arrived, exterior box was in perfect condition, blender box was a bit smashed and had obviously been opened and re-taped, looking as though it could be a returned item? I pulled out the blender and everything looked new, and so it seemed fine, until I noticed the blade was loose and was jiggling around. I called the company to see if this is the way it's supposed to be, but it's after hours. Did some googling and found someone else who had received one in the same condition, used it and ruined the jar. So I decided I wouldn't try it and called the company the next day. Spoke to a lady who had to go look at a blender to see if the blade was supposed to be loose, and she decided that was probably not right and spoke to someone in the technical dept. She said they were sending me a tool to tighten the blade but it would be a few days. Great. Tool arrived a few days later, and I asked my husband to tighten the blade, but a) the tool was to remove the entire base part from the jar, so we waited for the tool for nothing and b) the blade couldn't be tightened as the screw was stripped. Had to call again (this is now a week later) and couldn't get through because of an infinite loop in the answering system! I would have given zero stars on my review at this point! Finally got through the next day, and spoke to someone who said they would just send me a new jar, but again, it would be a few days because it was now Friday. New jar arrived and I was able to try the blender TEN days after initially receiving it!So here's my review of this blender-then I'll compare it to the VitaMix.As I said before, I love the jar, but the lid has a bad design; too many spaces and spots for food to get splashed into, and then is wasted. I also cut my thumb on a sharp point of the removable plastic top. I felt the rest of the corners, and it was just one that was razor sharp. The thing I dislike most about this blender is there are only two speeds, so as soon as you turn it on, even if it's on low, everything splashes up to the top and goes everywhere (into the lid, etc.) It is a very strong blender and so the reason I gave it 3 stars is because it does work well-it really blends things up quickly and well. There are just too many things I dislike about it to justify giving it any more than 3 stars. Just to give you an example: I made pear puree in the Omega and it immediately was thrown all over the inside of the jar and lid, being relatively thick, it just stayed there. I don't have time to get a tiny spatula and start digging out pear puree and pear parts from the lid and all over the sides of the jar! When I use my Vita Mix for pear puree, I start it at the lowest speed and gradually increase it so that I have a lovely jar of pear puree all sitting at the bottom because none of it was splattered all over the place (because I have control over the speed of the blending.) As a friend said to me, even the cheapest of blenders have a variable speed control dial. It's like having a Maserati which can only do 70mph or 100mph-kinda silly, isn't it?Vita Mix: Speeds Variable from 1 to 10, and HIGHOMEGA: Speeds Only Low and HighVita Mix: Noise Loud, lower at lower speedsOMEGA: Noise LoudVita Mix: Blender Jar nothing special, but lid is better designedOMEGA: Blender Jar really nice shape and material, poorly designed lidVita Mix: Blending Capability Excellent, total control by user from very low speed to HighOMEGA Blending Capability Excellent, barely any control by user with only 2 similar) speedsVita Mix: Ease of Cleaning Very good, lid is easily washedOMEGA: Ease of Cleaning Very good, lid gets full of food due to no control on speed (food splashes up too much)Omega advertises it has a removable insert in the lid to add things while blending, but so does the Vitamix. So it's pretty easy to see why I'm still in love with my Vita Mix. Sorry, Omega, looks like you've still got some work to do. I do see 4 and 5 reviews posted here, but I think it's because they haven't tried a VitaMix.P.S. I'm attaching some pictures of the two units next to each other so you can see how they compare to each other size-wise.

5Love this Blender
By E. Byers
It seems like everyone is making an insane blender nowadays.I previously had a Blendtec blender, with the smaller 40oz (I think? not the 64oz one) carafe on it. Tons of buttons, digital display, slick marketing website that shows how they can blend everything. Overall a good blender, but was on my second carafe (at like $70 a pop!), and overall, kind of disappointed for what I paid.Enter this monster. It's huge. Bigger than the blendtec by quite a bit, with the carafe on I am guessing it will not fit under most kitchen cabinets. 64oz marked carafe capacity, although it can probably hold close to 90oz if you went to the brim. It's also nearly the direct opposite of the blendtec, having only two plain toggle switches. "High/Low" and "On/Off". It's all I need honestly, the blendtec had all kinds of fancy modes, and lots of speeds, but ultimately for what I did, it was just a few things, and the cycles never worked, meaning the simple toggles are perfect for me.Huge Carafe is a winner (although Blendtec + others now have equivalent sizes as well), the carafe construction also appears to be much better, and using it contents seem to not get stuck as easily. Not sure if it's because of the larger air holes on the top, or just the design (it's a different type of plastic material, that is quite awesome for durability, etc). That said, I have a couple of downsides. The base is in a plastic case, feels slightly cheap, looks slightly cheap, looks to be durable enough. The other is that when I first used it, it smelled like burning electronics, subsequent uses have been better, but made my wife freak out a bit. The other downside is that it's just really big, look at the sizes first if you are going to leave this thing out.Sold the blendtec, this is the blender for me, simple, powerful, huge capacity, and works. Awesome.
