THE best Vacuum Cleaner choice, does the job by cleaning great!
By A4Q96
PROS: It is a reasonably priced (less than half the price of a Dyson!), reasonably quiet, has a reputation for durability, picks up cat hair (yea!), and has a nice REALLY long cord so you are not having to move your plug around every room.CONS: Haven't found any yet (that bother me)... I guess there are two things I have read: 1. some people will dislike is that it's a big yellow monster, so it doesn't have the style cachet of a Dyson or even Hoover. But it's a vacuum cleaner, so I quickly got over that. 2. There are folks who complain it does not work on hardwood floors, which mystifies me - I don't run a vacuum on hardwood - I use a Swiffer, stick broom, or good old fashioned broom. If you have mostly hardwood or vinyl floors, this might not be for you (see the negative reviews). Honestly, I would NEVER run a heavy vacuum cleaner on a beautiful hardwood floor. Maybe that is just me.That said, I stressed over our vacuum cleaner purchase more than I should have. I read the Amazon reviews, Consumer Reports, Consumer Search, and any other site I could find.At the end of the day I came down to this vacuum and the Hoover U8173 Savvy TurboPower... Amazon's reviews of the Hoover U8173 Savvy TurboPower vacuum were limited in number but all positive; however, there was a mixed story out on the web on other sites/reviews about it. There were a few others that I absolutely ruled out after finding killer issues:Dyson: destroys berber carpets AND costs $500Hoover Tempo: only $70 or so, but seems to have some durability issues and no on-board tools.Eureka: Not well built based on reviews and personal experienceThis Carpet Pro is amazing. The night it came, I vacuumed and it picked up every piece of dirt and lots I couldn't see. It was also quiet enough that it did not wake my sleeping kids. I was running it over a previously vacuumed area, so that gave me further proof of how effective it was.Three other observations:1) I ordered this exact model - I got the CPU-2T model with on-board accessory tools.. I couldn't find that model on Amazon at the time I purchased it so I ordered it elsewhere... Glad we can order it from Amazon now. And I paid the same price WITH tools as most other stores had the CPU-2 (the model without tools) because of a 10% off coupon... The tools work well - intuitive to use and the hose is sufficiently long for me. And, they all have on-board storage. Our previous Eureka drove us crazy because all the tools did not fit on-board (ridiculous!)2) This vacuum is not well known... It took a lot of hunting to learn about it, though two reviews I read were from Vacuum repairmen, who said it was the most durable, trouble-free vacuum they see. I knew it was a bit of a risk to buy a relatively lesser known vacuum. But it is commercial grade and made by the Tacony Corporation, who also makes Riccar and Simplicity vacuums. Two different vacuum stores recommended Riccar to me, so I felt better about this choice as a result.3) We have a cleaning person come for occasional "deep cleaning" of our house - she loved the vacuum. Since she is someone who has lots of experience with different choices, I thought this was a good indicator that the Carpet Pro is a keeper!--------UPDATE July 09: We have had this vacuum now for about 9 months, and still love it. It picks up dirt and dust as well as it did when it was new, and behaves like it is indestructible. The only thing I don't love are the bag changes - not the neatest, but well worth the effort!--------Update Dec 09: Still going strong - no issues, and cleans as well as the day we got it! One additional comment - it is great for pet hair - the onboard tools do a nice job of snapping pet hair up, and what it doesn't get I use a lint roller on.--------Update Feb 11: Still going strong, and still love it. It cleans as well as it did on day one, as long as you change the bag in a timely manner. I have NEVER had a vacuum last this long without some drama. There is hair EVERYWHERE in our house (my wife, mom, and daughter have very long hair, 2 cats, etc.). With our old Hoover and Eureka, I spent every other vacuuming session unwinding hair from some roller somewhere. Not once yet with this vacuum. And as I said before, our cleaning person still loves it. Going on three years, and I'd buy another if it broke tomorrow in a heartbeat.

Carpet Pro ROCKS!
By E. Gutzwiller
Years ago, I purchased the Riccar 8850. It was such a good vacuum, I purchased a second Riccar 8925 and sent the 8850 to college with kid #1. I then purchased an Oreck XL and sent that to college with kid #2. I now have both kids and all three sweepers under my roof. I have been using the 8925 upstairs and use the 8850 in the basement. The Oreck doesn't see any action. We have our Riccar's serviced every year at the cost of nearly $200 each sweeper. This last visit, I ask the shop owner how much a new Riccar comparable to my 8925 is. He quoted me $600 but would give me $100 trade in on either of my Riccar's. HE WAS NUTS. I was only asking because I have noticed that even with the constant maintenance and service, the 8925 doesn't seem to have it anymore. ENTER CARPET PRO CPU-2T. I searched on line and found this Carpet Pro sweeper for about what I was paying in maintenance for one vaccum. It was only a 10AMP and my 8925 Riccar was 12AMP so I was a bit concerned, but for the price, I thought I would give it a whirl since it is also made by Riccar. My husband of course didn't want to spend the money. He agreed with the understanding that if it was junk, it was going back. WE LOVE IT! It has infinately more power than any of the other sweepers. The AMP thing was not a problem. This sweeper could suck the paint off the walls. We have 4 dogs inside the house. (2 Labs, 1 Chow and a Beagle) Dog hair heaven. We vacuum every other day. That is why we need a quality sweeper that holds up. The Carpet Pro CPU-2T fits that bill. I love the on board attachments since I have always had that luxury. The only thing I wish it had was the headlight. For some reason, this one didn't have the headlamp. Not that I vacuum in the dark, it is just a nice feature in low places. This sweeper has great range (long cord), lays low so I can get under things and is very hard to loose in the house with it's slammin yellow exterior. I would not hesitate to spend the money again. I could buy one of these nearly every year for what I was paying in maintenance for just one of my other sweepers and still come out with a better machine. My advise... BUY IT!

the best
By J. Flaxman
i was searching for a replacement for my kenmore cannister that lost its ooomph. after researching consumer reports i was just about set to buy the eureka 8340 series which was one of the top rated. after further research i found waay too many negative reviews in terms of reliability and quality. Made me wonder how this unit was top rated in the first place.one of the reviews mentioned the carpet pro series. It is supposedly made by the same folks as simplicity and ricarr.i had access to the simplicity upright and loved it.After searching the internet i found the best deal at allbrands direct. For $250 no shipping chg, they included 3 belts, 2 filters,7 pc accesory set-15ft hose- bare floor, upholstery, ceiling, crevice tool and 2 extensions. this was a great deal especially since i have stairs to do.as for the unit itself= i bought the cpu-2t- 40ft heavy duty cord and 3 attachments- since i got sloppy and tend to run over the cord once in a while i thought it be best to get this model- the 1t model has a light,30ft 2prong cord and no attachments.i have several pets- 3 cats and 2 dogs and hair hair hair. i purposely left one of my carpets alone until i got this unit.Dont let the 10amp motor turn you off- as soon as i plugged this in and turned it on, it practically dragged me across the room- its not self propelled but the brush is so good it literally will feel like its pulling you. Basically in 1-2 passes the room was clean in 3 minutes app 10x12. no effort is needed to push and pull it. It's 18 lbs and i had no problem carrying it up the stairs where it quickly disposed on loose kitty litter. it also has its own built in resettable fuse if the unit overheats due to clogs or full bags. although there is no bad full indicator, from past experience you;ll know the bag is full when you look at the carpet.I am totally pleased with this unit. its not overly loud in my opinion. Forget all those bargain deals and buy this unit. this might be your last vacuum purchase, even though other units are 15 inches, you'll make it up with speed.
