5Was unsure at first but am well pleased.
By Andy Schack
I had been looking at these on Amazon for a few months and finally decided to buy. My Wife was very hesitant but was willing to try it. We were amazed at how well it worked. I put a large pan with peanut oil in it, enough to fry french fries, and set it to 450...within 30 seconds you could see those distortions the oil makes at the bottom of the pan when it's getting hot. We've used both electric and gas and usually when you put the frozen fries in the pan the oil "cools" and has to reheat somewhat....not with this item. The oil quickly recovered it's temp. The reason I bought it was mainly to cut down on energy usage during summer. The AC normally has to battle it out with the stovetop, this item however greatly reduces the heat output which is exactly what I was looking for. During the winter months we'll still use the gas stove since it both cooks and heats but this little jewel will be heavily used during the warmer months. If you're sitting on the fence about one of these like I was, go ahead and get one, you won't regret it.

4Perfect for a Chef in a small Apt.
By Mwrightcchef
Bought this with a gift card I got for christmas, and so far its working great. I do work in professional kitchen for a living and my main concern was getting the heat out put that I needed to actually sautee foods properly. The heat is great! It brings the oil to it smoking point very quickly, and keeps the heat up through any cooking.Couple down sides. The numeric increments and the actual degrees don't match up. When the temperature is set to 180* it still boils, but when you set it to the 1 setting it acts as a warming setting. By no means a deal breaker but took a minute to figure out, almost burned dinner one night setting it to 180* thinking that this was well be low boiling. Next, the lining/casing of the unit is plastic. Be aware when cooking with larger pots and pans because it will melt the plastic if the pan comes off the cooking surface, as it did with my unit. The safety measures are great, it turning its self off if there isn't a pan on the surface, and not turning on at all if there isn't the proper cook ware on the surface. Word to the wise, don't leave it plugged in with a pan on it when not in use if you have pets that like hopping up on the counter. One of my cats turned it on by stepping on the ON button. Luckily I was at home and heard the unit turn on.Overall I'm happy with the induction top. Living in a small apartment with no gas and knowing that the standard electric cook tops are worthless, this unit puts out the heat consistently. It also doesn't take up a lot of space and cleans up easily. I'm definitely happy with this purchase.

5What's not to like? What a GREAT product! HEAVEN!
By G. Hearn
I've had this item for a few months. I wanted to wait until I had used it a bit before writing a review. I researched other brands/options, and finally decided upon this one. I'm glad I did! At some point, I'm going to find out exactly how this thing works. . . because right now. .I have NO idea! HahahaIn reviews of other similar items, I read about cracking and so on. No so with this one. Also, I think that some of the others is smaller. This one is a really good size. I have a 10-inch skillet which fits perfectly. But, of course, you can use much smaller pans. One thing you want to remember is that to use this item, you must use metal pots/pans, such as All-Clad, which I have. Aluminum and glass will not work. It must be metal, as in stainless steel. If you attempt to use a non-metal pan, then it simply will not turn-on. It knows if what you're using will work or not. It also comes with a magnet so that if you're out shopping, you'll know if the pot will work before you purchase.I rarely turn the heat above "5". This is plenty for most items. The heat is so quick, and steady. You have the ability to cook by temperature also, though I've yet to have a need for that.Once you lift the pan, it will beep a few times, and then turn itself off. A very nice feature, I think.I was a little hesitant about purchasing, due to the price. .. but. . . I'm glad I made the investment. I've been using a really inexpensive electric burner (coil-type) and it's the difference between night-and-day. My old electric burner was just aggravating. It was too small. . Didn't heat well. . . . Would "turn-off" every 30-seconds. You really couldn't even boil water with it! Now I feel like I'm in heaven! I'm in the process of replacing the range in my kitchen (hence the need for this item) and though I've had gas in the past, I'm seriously considering an induction cooktop. Though I've always used gas in the past, the easy clean-up of the induction cooktop makes it well worth it!
