Great New Company - Sunpentown International!

SPT (Sunpentown International) is a great new company (founded 1993) in California which specializes in small appliances; I purchased one of their air conditioners, the SPT 10,000 BTU one. I was a little hesistant as I usually look for brand names (Frigidaire, Carrier, etc) when it comes to air conditioners but having read some positive reviews on their smaller size conditioners (5,000 and 8,000), no reviews for the 10,000 and 12,000, I decided to give this company a try. Well upon receipt, I was impressed with the build quality and packaging. Now I live in Chicago and this past Saturday, May 26, 2012 was a record 97 degrees in the city, got the air conditioner on Friday, put it in the window on Saturday morning, turned it on 66 degrees on the low cool setting and it cooled down my living and dining room area (roughly 600 square feet)with 10 minutes, outstanding air conditioner thus far!

I purchased a 5000BTU version of this product to replace an older unit, because it was not working so well. The reason I had invested in the smaller unit is that it had in it's description that it had "fresh air venting" upon unboxing & installing, I found that that model did have that feature, I was upset, and called the Retailer I purchased it from. Their Overseas Customer No Service agent tried to pawn the listing inaccuracy off onto the MFG, and tried to give me the contact info for the MFG. After walking the agent through the Idea that they the seller had the responsibility to give me some form of service for the product that I had purchased from them, I was offered a $10 e-gift card, and hung up on. On a mistake in a listing of a almost $200 item?? 5% off??? Needless to say I was upset, and went looking for this model that DOES have the fresh air vent. A bit of searching turned op the best price from an amazon seller, and I jumped on the deal. It arrived very quickly, and it a Beast of a box, but after getting it set up in the window, and firing it up, it is amazing! somewhat more noisy side on low fan it has a fair amount of white noise, but I don't notice a change when the compressor is running. I used to use a humidifier in my room to keep the humidity up at least to 30% or so, now I do not need it as the unit is vent/return air exchanger keeps it at about the outside level. it can cool like a glacier. It will keep the room with in a few degrees of the set temp. and the air deflector can be adjusted to blow up towards the ceiling and stir the air, keeping a uniform temperature in the room. At high fan it is really Pretty noisy, but I have quit using it on high, as with the room stirring I find I don't need it. So to end all, great Unit, I would even though it is louder that my old one, defiantly recommend this as the unit to buy. Hats off the amazon team!

This unit was used for a bedroom that measured 15 feet wide by 20 feet long having 10 feet high ceilings. The operating fan level sound was tolerable and the unit kept the room very comfortable. Delivery was as promised and the unit was well packaged.
