5Tea Time Meets the Jetsons
By robosolo
We purchased this KitchenAid electric kettle to replace an electric hot water dispenser. At first, we had reservations as to its ability to quickly boil enough hot water for our needs, but the kettle proved it was more than adequate in this respect. It's so fast at bringing water to a boil that it's kind of hard to believe. For example, it boiled a quart of cold water in about 1.5 minutes. While this is not as fast as our old hot water dispenser, it's pretty close - considering the time it used to take with holding cups under the slowly dispensing dispenser. The quality of design, fit and finish is exceptional. The kettle looks and feels like it will last forever and it does come with a 5-year warranty.Nice Features: 1. Easy-to-read current analog temperature gauge that is fairly accurate (We actually checked it against an accurate thermometer.) 2. Easy-to-see water level gauge. 3. Unique heating system which allows you to easily lift the kettle off of the electric heating base. The kettle actually sits on a small knob-like heating element on the base thus reducing the weight of the kettle itself and making it very easy and safe to clean. The base stays in place using rubber pad feet and doesn't slip around. 4. Extremely easy-to-use maximum temperature setting sliding lever (base) that you just set for how hot you want your water to be and then wait for the indicator ding to tell you it's ready (Of course, you do have to press the on button to start things going.) A linear array of white LEDs on the base then continuously show you the progress (or you can just look at the temperature gauge on the kettle itself.) 5. Very cute audible ding when the water has reached its user-set temperature. The ding also occurs when pressing the on switch. 6. Spring-dampened, slow-opening lid that operates at the touch of a button using your thumb. 7. Large enough top opening to easily fill kettle with water. We do wish that this opening was even larger since only a small hand can reach down into the kettle to wipe the inside after use, something that should be done to any kettle to avoid the build-up of hard water deposits. 8. Costs less per year to operate than a hot water dispenser. Those 750-W dispensers must maintain a 1.5 liter tank of water constantly near boiling point whereas an electric kettle is only on occasionally when you want some hot water. The KitchenAid electric also can bring water to a full boil at 100 deg C (if you set it that high) while a typical dispenser can't be set so high. 9. Stainless steel interior. 10. High price tag but far less expensive than a hot water dispenser. At almost $200 after taxes, it ain't cheap - but in this case you really get what you pay for and we feel this electric kettle is worth every penny. 11. Aesthetics: This electric kettle is gorgeous. It sit out on our kitchen counter where we can admire its candy apple red splendor (also comes in black.) It wouldn't be out of place in the Jetson's kitchen.
