Works Great - But Instructions Misleading
By Nathanael Sandstrom
Bought this after a couple of the hottest days of the year here in pittsburgh for my 3rd floor office which only has casement windows on either end of the house, but has two rooms. It's about 400 square feet give or take. One of the windows is right by my wife's desk and so we didn't want to put it there, but the other is in the other room at the other end of the house. The instructions say that a casement window requires 16.5 inches for the window which is only 14.5 inches wide. It says a sliding window requires 15.5 inches. I had 15.5 inches in my window and was able to fit it just fine. It's a small issue, but don't toss the A/C just because your window is a little narrow. In any case, it works great. Really sucks the humidity out of the air and blows strongly enough to get from one room to the other. I don't think it's too loud, but I haven't tried sleeping with it and during the day while I'm working, it's not a big deal.I'd recommend, but it is heavy as anything.

Slider/Casement Window.Air Conditiner
By Virginia Gentleman
We have a Florida room that faces east and it receives a lot of sun and the room gets to 90+ degrees. We mounted this unit in the wall near the ceiling of the 19 X 9 room and it brings it down to comfortable levels in about 15 minutes. We were remodeling the room, so cutting a hole in the wall was simple to do. Great unit with a great remote control. The unit comes with a heavy duty mounting bracket and Amazon recommended buying a bracket for installation. An error of Amazon's part. We now have a purchased bracket that we did not need. Unit is very quiet and has more features than any air conditioner we have ever owned. Energy saving mode and variable fan control, plus this unit allows you to exhaust hot stale air from the room. Most window units today do not have an exhaust feature.

Perfect for through-the-wall installation
By Captain Janeway
I shopped for quite a while before choosing this particular Air Conditioner. My purchase requirements were:The functionality had to be simple enough for my elderly mom to operate. The unit had to fit in one particular spot and the installation would be through-the-wall. It had to have a full function remote because of the installed height. She could reach it, but it was a stretch. The home is about 1000 square feet with 6 inch walls and good insulation. The manual states that the maximum wall thickness is 8.5 inches. Although this unit is sold as a window/wall unit, the manual does not address details of a wall mounted installation. As it turns out, the wall installation is quite simple with a decision or two to make depending on preferences. The wall opening should be sized to the minimum window opening requirements. The framing will have the best structural strength and minimum trim requirements if it is built internally. With a cordless drill, screw the bottom piece first on top of two short blocks screwed to adjacent wall studs. This bottom part of the frame will be exactly even with the bottom of the opening. The top is then installed the same way, then the left and right sides. I used the block and screw method for every part of the frame since the 6 inch wall studs were on 24 inch centers which provided a lot of room to work. Remember to fill cavities remaining with insulation if necessary.Next, the included metal support bracket was installed and adjusted. The color matched metal side rail mounts are pre-drilled by the factory to set the proper angle for draining the condensate. As an extra step, I drilled these side rails, one hole centered on each side. Two number 10 screws were used to finalize a secure installation of the A/C unit. To finish the task, the inside and outside trim was added to complete a very good looking through-the-wall installation. The Results:This air conditioner is fairly quiet. It looks good and the digital readout and controls are accurate. Temperatures were measured with an industrial quality Omega Digital Thermometer. The A/C unit (rated at 10,000 BTU) will actually cool this entire 1,000 square foot house down to a very comfortable differential from the outside temperature. The differential, as best that I have been able to determine, is about 25 degrees F down to a low of 60 degrees. I think this is mostly due to the good level of thermal insulation in the home. The hardest part of this ordeal was teaching my mom not to use the remote in the same way that she flips channels on her television.I highly recommend this product.
