Great value, compact size
By Aaron Burgman
This microwave seems (after 1 month) to be a very good basic model. We selected it based on the Frigidaire brand's good rating in Consumer Reports (low numbers of repairs reported), and the similarity of the model number to one of their top rated models (FMV152 in CR vs. FFMV162 for this one).Installation was fairly easy. Be sure to read through the whole process first, and make sure you have the right drill bits on hand. If you are installing it place of an older one, the holes in the overhead cabinet may not line up. This was not a problem for us as old and new holes were far enough apart, and we could skip drilling a new hole for the power cord as it laid flat enough on the top of the unit to reach the old hole. This microwave was about 10 pounds lighter than the 15 year old one it replaced, and has nearly the same dimensions (relatively petite compared with most models out there). No complaints about its cooking abilities, though I've been adding an additional 30 seconds to its preset beverage time of 1:40. It is fairly quiet while running. The "done cooking" beeps are a bit loud and long by my taste, and do not stop when you open the door, though you can silence them if you press Cancel before opening the door. Bonus feature: you'll get reminder beeps periodically if you leave your food inside when done. The inside has plenty of space, and the controls, while basic, do have a few good tricks like pressing 1, 2, or 3 to immediately run for that number of minutes. The vent fans are loud but not obnoxiously loud. We haven't tested their smoke/steam moving capability yet. If you have the duct for it, you can vent to the outside. The stove lights are plenty bright for our needs. If you use the kitchen timer, you may miss the "done" beep--it's a very quiet single beep. Probably the biggest detraction is that the door has a sort of sloppy, chunky sound and feel when opening or closing it. It's plenty tight when closed, but you can tell it's a very basic latching mechanism.Overall we are pleased with our choice.

So far, a decent replacement OTC microwave
By Thom17043
I bought this unit to replace a nearly 19 year old Whirlpool model that I had put in when I originally moved into my house. From all the comments from people who have replaced microwaves after only half, a third, or a quarter of that time (or less) I suppose I should be thankful for how long the original did last. However, I'm really hoping that those other comments aren't a sign of how long current models will last...In looking for a replacement, I saw a lot of models that were both taller and deeper than my original model - that is, they would hang lower towards the range and also stick out further than my original one. This one is larger in both directions as well, but nearly so much as some of the ones that I looked at. The deeper is no doubt because most models have a carousel in them now - my original unit did not. I'm not sure why they are making them taller, though. These aren't a problem in a new kitchen where you can adjust the cabinets accordingly, but can be an issue in an existing kitchen. I'm over six foot, so some of the bulkiest units do obstruct my view of the back two burners on my range where I'm more likely to have tall pots for pasta or such.As for operation of the unit, I have few real complaints. Some have mentioned this unit being noisy. Compared to my old unit, this one is nearly soundless. Compared to this one, my old unit sounded like an industrial arc welder... The controls took some getting used to, pretty much because after nearly twenty years I could operate the old one without even thinking about it - more instinctive patterns of pushing buttons than thinking about power level, time, and such. After two months of use, I've pretty much adapted but there are still times that I have to adjust my cooking time a bit - oddly taking both longer in some cases and shorter in others to cook/warm something compared to my old unit. The carousel definitely cooks/warms things more evenly than my old unit without a carousel - where I'd often have to stop the microwave several times to manually turn things during the cooking time.My only real complaint is the alert when the microwave is finished. My original unit would beep five times at a volume loud enough to hear elsewhere in the house. After a minute, it would beep again - once - and then every minute - once - if you had not opened the door, to remind you that you had something in the microwave. If you opened the door while it was beeping, it would cancel subsequent beeps even in the initial five beep alert. This one sounds four shrill, drawn-out, tones when it is finished. Opening the door does not cancel the alert. After a minute, it sounds four more of the same tones - again not canceling the alert even if you open the door during the alert. I could really do with shorter beeps or tones and a way to cancel the tones instead of having to listen to all of them.I also notice that when the microwave is finished, instead of displaying "END" or "DONE" it displays "GOOD." I suppose that this is some liability thing where some class action lawsuit happy lawyer decided to sue some manufacturer for a case of food poisoning because someone put raw meat in the microwave for five seconds and argued that the microwave had told him that the food was "DONE" and ready to be eaten...

Replacement Unit
By J. Blair
Bought this model as a replacement for a similar Frigidaire model that failed after ten years of every day use. The mounts had to be changed out and some new holes drilled in the top cabinet but the full installation went pretty quick. Only needed help setting the unit into the wall mount and holding it up while the top screws went in.This is a basic microwave without a lot of frills but we don't do any fancy cooking in the microwave; mainly we thaw things, do popcorn, warm up leftovers, and cook potatoes or corn on the cob and nothing much else so we don't use fancy. Just remember to hit stop before opening the door to kill the buzzer since Frigidaire failed to connect the door switch to the buzzer!?!?! Annoying!
