Modern looks and loaded with features, not just another vacuum
By Angela Streiff
Watch Video Here: /review/R1IJ01KZ0BEUHS The Electrolux Precision is no doubt a good looking vacuum. With its modern design and silver/chrome color scheme, the angles and shape give this machine almost a robotic look to it. But there's more to this unit than meets the eye. There are features unique to it that you wont find on just any other vacuum. While it has both good qualities and a few small features that could be improved upon, one things for sure, the Electrolux Precision is not your everyday vacuum. This medium sized vacuum has some weight to it. It's not for someone looking for an ultra-light weight cleaner that you can push around with a single finger. There are large wheels on the base that do a good job of maneuvering the cleaner around on both carpet and hard floors. There is a large handle built in to the cleaner, located right above the canister, which helps when you need to lift up or carry the the vacuum.Unlike some other vacuums that have a wide rectangular base, the cleaning area on this upright is almost perfectly square. Because of this design, the actual surface area of the floor that the vacuum cleans on each pass is less, but this also allows the cleaning base to fit into smaller areas between table legs, around chairs and such. It also makes for a smaller footprint when storing it. It's a bagless unit, so all of the dirt, hair and debris that is picked up goes into a clear canister that can be emptied directly into the trash. The suction tube the dirt goes through is clear and easy to see into, making it simple to locate anything that might get clogged in inside of it. The roller-brush height can be adjusted with a foot pedal on the base, so it can be set to work with the appropriate carpet height. There is a dedicated button on the top of the canister for switching from cleaning hard-floors to carpet. The vacuums power on/off button is located right beside it.The handle is long and pulls out to double as a cleaning wand. There are two attachments that come with it and have storage mounts on the back of the cleaner, a folding crevice tool and a brush with bristles about an inch long. On the handle there is a sliding suction adjustment button that lets you regulate the suction levels when using it as a cleaning wand. The weighty design of this vacuum works to its advantage when using the cleaning wand, since it keeps the base held down and in place instead of tipping over.On the front of the base there are blue LED lights that indicate the current settings of the roller bar and a red LED exclamation mark light that comes on to indicate when the roller brush bar needs to be checked for something jammed in it or something wrapped around it. The "Brushroll Clean Technology" is where this cleaner really shines. I have long hair, so does my daughter. My vacuums roller bars are usually a mess of hair and miscellaneous strings wrapped up inside of them. Every few months this requires me to take apart the base of my current cleaner and cut off everything wrapped around the roller bar. In this Electrolux, there is a blade of some kind inside the vacuum that, with a press of a pedal on the base, comes down as the cleaner is on and the roller bar is spinning and cuts off anything wrapped up inside it and sucks it into the canister. With 3 large dogs, 2 kids, a few small rodents and a large fluffy cat, my carpeting gets put to the test on a daily basis. Pet hair, mud, dirt, crumbs and everything else you can think of is constantly finding its way onto the floors. I've been pleased with its pick-up performance so far. The suction from the base reaches fairly close to the edges of walls, and I use the wand for corners and more hard to reach spots. The vacuum does a nice job also on hard floors as well, and I use it often to suck up the large pet-hair balls that collect behind and around the furniture in the kitchen. I've used a number of vacuums over the last few years, some working better than others. Some with features I like and some working for a longer period of time. If there was one feature I could take from another cleaner and put into this vacuum it would be a retractable power cord. I've found retractable cables to be especially handy, however the cord on this one does wrap up neatly and stays in place well.So in conclusion, while there are a lot of vacuum cleaners on the market to chose from, this Electrolux does have one feature the other brands don't, the Brushroll Clean Technology. The ability of this vacuum to, in a sense clean itself, offers a brand new kind of option to the market. Electrolux has designed their Precision cleaner with a very modern feel and appearance, while still keeping every part extremely functional. After years of owning brands like Hoover, Dirt Devil and Eureka, I'm finding Electrolux is definitely giving them a run for their money.Update: 1/13/2013Today while vacuuming I accidentally sucked up part of one of my kids toys. Right away a sensor in the vacuum roller bar detected it and while the vacuum was still powered on, the bar stopped rotating. After clearing away the toy, the red warning indicator light on the front of the cleaner remained on and the bar would not begin rotating again. I emptied out the canister in case perhaps it was too full, but no luck. I then removed the bottom panel and pulled of the beater-bar to see if something else was lodged in it, but nothing was there. After doing some troubleshooting, I discovered there was a "reset" button on the vacuum I had never seen before and that this was specifically intended to re-start the beater-bar again after you have dislodged an item that has gotten jammed inside it. The button blends in and is almost hidden, so I had never noticed it before. It's located on the side of the base of the cleaner. You will definitely need to know about this button, since at one point or another most of us eventually get something accidentally sucked into the vacuum cleaner we don't mean to. So if you're using your vacuum and the red light goes on and you can get the beater bar to roll again, track down that reset button and press it, and everything starts right back up again.

Good vacuum but very heavy and cumbersome
By Dominique W
Overall, I really like this vacuum. The design is spaceaged and modern looking. The orange color is a nice change. There is a cool LED light that serves no function but it looks pretty. The attachments all fit onto the vacuum and do not fall off when stored...this is always a plus for me. The cord does not retract but the way the machine is designed, it is easy to wind up and looks tidier than most vacuums. I actually didn't mind the non-retracting cord because it is so easy to wind it up on this maching. The controls/buttons aren't intuitive...or at least not intuitive for me. It took some time to get used to them. Once I did, I was fine. I had an especially hard time with the "power" button and the botton to eject the canister. The vacuum itself is pretty heavy. Although I love the attachments, I would never want to use them on stairs if it involved hositing the vacuum up as I went. Really, not for anyone who has back, shoulder or any other problems with heavy objects. If you want to tone your arms and shoulders while you do housework...this is the machine for you!The motor is mid level. Louder than the Panasonic and Dyson vacs I have already. Not so loud that it's mistaken for a jet. Somewhere in between that. The suction is good. Not great but good enough. I didn't have to go over any areas of my floor...which I appreciated considering how much the vacuum weighs. The self-cleaning brush roll is a nice touch. The product gets an extra star just for this. I enjoy NOT having to sit on the floor and cut off long hair (mine) that accumulated around the brush. On the other hand, I've had vacuums (specifically the Panasonic) that picked everything up and never had debris wrapped around the roller. So, geat function but obviously other ways to engineer the roller so that this isn't necessary. Still...adding a star.Another area I'm picky on is the canister size. I like to be be able to clean my entire house without having to empty the canister. From the looks of the canister, I didn't think this would be possible. It holds much more than I anticiapted and I was fine vacuuming the entire house (mid-sized) without worrying about blowing anything out from the canister being too full. There is an automatic lever that opens the canister but it is stiff. So, in essence it's like having to manually open it. That area needs some improvement.Overall, I think this is a decent vacuum. For the pricepoint, there are so many better models on the market. Would I personally buy a new one if this one dies? No. However, if you are looking for a vacuum with pizazz that will give you stunningly toned arms and you have a few hundred to spare...yes, this is the vacuum for you!!

good design - a high quality vacuum
By lbroz
I bought this Electrolux Precision vacuum (Model 8802 Type A) at Costco on July 7, 2013 for $158.99. It was on sale from the regular Costco price of $199.99 from July 1-28. I'm writing after the first use. So far, I like the vacuum. I used it on Indian and Persian wool area rugs and wood floors and it works great. It's very easy to switch the height with the toe switch--a blue LED light inidcates the level setting. A big surprise was that the the rotating brush head didn't snag the fringe on these rugs, which is a nice difference from the old vac. Very good cleaning, adust container is big enough to do several rooms before emptying. I also used the wand feature with the "multi-tool" which I did not find that effective. I prefer the regular dust brush attachment on the wand and used it to clean spider webs and to dust window sills etc. That works very well. One design highlight is that the vacuum body does not tip over even when the wand hose is stretched to its maximum of about 12 feet. That's because the hose is connected to the vacuum near its base, and the low center of gravity prevents tipping.
