3Fair Weather Air Conditioner
By W. Fitch
Pros:- Worked out of the box- Very quiet- Inexpensive- Outside air intake (sort of)- Broken window adapter replaced under warranty at no cost and little effortCons: This item is poorly designed. The manual states that the outside air intake must be detached when the outside temperature exceeds 95 degrees F. to prevent the compressor from overheating (this isn't easily done). Also, the unit mixes room air with the air sucked in from outside. Naturally, this largely defeats the advantage of a dual hose system. Also, the hoses are mounted right behind the cooling coils, which probably disrupts air flow through them. Finally, the parts themselves seem sort of flimsy (particularly the tabs that lock the air hoses to AC).Other Thoughts: I'm a little disappointed that the thermostat only goes down to 64 degrees. It's worth being aware that the fan seems to run constantly even when the compressor isn't on, and there seems to be a noticeably loud water pump (a guess) that frequently cycles on and off when the humidity is high. Also, this unit comes with casters. You could unscrew them, but there are bolts sticking out past the bottom of the unit. For the price, I'm satisfied with the air conditioner, but you can probably find better at a higher price point.

4Great portable AC unit!
By Brian A. Thompson
We bought this AC unit for our bedroom (about 200sq feet). It cools the room quickly and is surprisingly quiet. We live in PA and it is hot and humid in the summertime. This unit did a great job of keeping me cool when I was 8 & 9 months pregnant in June and July. That was quite a feat! We love that it is quiet even with the compressor on and it doesn't make a lot of noise when it switches back and forth between the compressor and fan. It is a nice white noise in the background, and I would say it's quieter than the window unit in our living room. The only noise that bothered me (and the reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars) was the water pump that turned on at intervals for the self evaporating feature. I didn't know what this noise was so I called customer service and the guy walked me through troubleshooting it. He was very knowledgable and suggested I attach the drain hose to it and see if water comes out. That was the issue. We ended up putting the unit up on a small stool and keeping the drain hose attached and draining it to a bucket. B/c it's so humid here, we fill an 11 quart bucket overnight on the most humid nights. A little ghetto? Maybe, but it keeps the water pump from coming on, and that keeps me happy. If we weren't using it in our bedroom while we are sleeping, this noise probably wouldn't have bothered me that much. The only other thing to be aware of is that this is a big unit and it's heavy. It does have casters, but to get it up stairs was a two person job (well, actually my husband did get it up a flight of stairs himself but only b/c I was hugely pregnant at the time).Overall we are very impressed with the quality and functioning of this unit. We are also impressed by the customer service. The rep even emailed me to follow up on whether or not the solution work. Many people warned us against getting a portable AC b/c of noise issues and poor quality, but we couldn't be happier with this unit. I must say that it pays to spend a bit more to get better quality. This unit is worth the price!

5Great defrosting and cooking!
By Richard K. Young
This thing will thaw a five-pound chicken without burning and without having to check it all the time. Wonderful. Also, it has a sensor control for cooking fresh vegetables that seems to actually cook them very well. It's a bit stronger than our old microwave, so it cooks a bit faster. We are very pleased!

There's a round basket for roasting vegetables and "dry-frying" potatoes (fresh or frozen) in the low-fat method for which George Foreman appliances are famous. A flat basket measuring 8-1/4 inches long, 7-1/2 inches wide, and 2-1/2 inches deep adjusts to hold foods like fish, steaks, and vegetables flat for grilling as they rotate. 5Worth the money!!
By John D. Preston
I've read different reviews about the bigger version of this one and also about the Ronco version. I only have experienced the Jr. version of rotisserie cooker. From what I've seen so far, this thing is fantastic. The first two days I used it, we cooked whole chickens. Just rubbed a little seasoning salts all over, and they tasted alot like grocery store rotisserie. Nice and juicy. quite nice. Clean up was really easy. The wife said she thought it would be alot harder to clean, but was pleasantly surprised that it was so easy. The next day I cleaned it, and she was right. It WAS easy to clean. The oven did get pretty hot, but so does my conventional oven, so proper precautions are required. I have many ideas for the use of this appliance, like hot dogs, italian sausages, ham, the list goes on and on. I have to say, this product seems to live up to it's claims. I also have the Lean Mean Grilling Machine, and I haven't been disappointed so far by Big George. I hope George keeps putting out quality products like these.

5YES! This one works.
By Burly Nerd
Oh man, Salton and George did it right, mostly. This machine produces some tasty chicken. The advice I read in the other reviews was good, too. Always line the drip tray with aluminum foil to make clean-up easy. Fryers cost less than Roasters, per pound. The reflector shield in the rotisserie WILL stain (they made it out of a material that does not resist grease AT ALL).

The construction quality is good, but not great. Using and cleaning the unit is easy, after you accept that the back reflector is impossible to clean, even if you remove it from the unit and soak it for an hour. Give up on that before you waste your life.

Buy some string to tie down the legs and wings on your chickens, or they will get too close to the heating element and may burn before your chicken is done.

4From a Former Showtime User
By A Customer
Yes, I'm a turncoat - former user of the *other* famous rotisserie with the "moviehouse" title.

There's good and bad about both the George Jr. and the Showtime, but having tried both, I'd have to go with the Junior. For starters, the half-cylinder design and molded base make for a sturdier unit. (With the Showtime, you have to pull down a glass door secured by small pins that lock into a track that in itself is very flimsy and breakable, as others have reported.) Also, I have to admit that I wasn't looking forward to another go-around with Customer Service for my Showtime - would be great if long-time users would share their George Jr. CS experiences, here.

I'd also give the edge in terms of easy cleaning to the George Jr. Yes, the reflector thingie will never again attain it's perfect mirror finish after use, and I will update here if it loses any cooking speed once well "seasoned". As for heating up the kitchen - well, yes, it's un-insulated and needs to be kept well away from cabinetry, etc. so as not to do damage or start a fire! (As with any rotisserie of this type, it's advisable to stand it on a heat-resistant surface, as well.) But I'd say it really doesn't heat up my mid-sized kitchen noticeably, with the fairly open floor plan of our home. (I wouldn't even try this appliance in close quarters, though.) Oh, and for removing your cooked items, be sure to get yourself a good pair of heat proof gloves - no, *not* fabric, the rubberized, non-combustible kind - should be less than $... from the BBQ area of your local home store. The removal tool that comes with the George Jr. is ingenious, but I still find I need hand protection.

I do miss the Showtime's squeaky old rotisserie assembly. The chicken "skewering" plates were awkward, but held the birds (or roasts) quite securely for rotating. The George Jr. has nicer (bigger) turning gears for slow and silent rotation, but the actual skewer/plate things (check one in a store if you can't envision what I'm talking about) are more of a partial vice, complete with nut-screw tightening. Looks good, but in practice it seems a little insecure and you *really* have to truss a bird good in order to keep it from making contact with the heating element, which would be a fire hazard.

Which brings me to a final comment about the Junior - it doesn't seem to have quite the capacity of the full sized Showtime, although it claims to be able to handle two chickens, etc. I'd probably have bought the BIG George if I could find it in stores these days...and I can't imagine that the "Baby" George would really be suited for anything much bigger than one little chicken or a hefty game hen.

In my opinion, other than maybe BBQ, no chicken tastes better than a horizontal rotisserie chicken. It's not that much extra work, it's fun to watch, and it's a shame that there aren't more players in this appliance's arena updating and improving the designs. But until that happens, the George Jr. looks like a step up in usability and durability.

5How an AC SHOULD Be Built !
By ChefJoseph
As a longtime Friedrich fan, I was very disappointed when they started outsourcing in the mid 2000's so that they could offer several inexpensive China-Made models and "remain competitive" Thankfully, there were still their premium models which were made in the US of MUCH better grade materials. These Models were, on the average, double the price (and weight) of the foreign made units for the same BTU range and IMO, worth EVERY penny. In 6/2007, I moved into in a pre war apartment building with very small windows (20 1/4" width) in the living room, dining room area. I needed a 12,000 BTU unit to adequately cool it. There was only ONE unit that was both 12,000 BTU's and would fit in the window: The Friedrich X-Star XQ12L10A which at the time was $650. The X-Stars were very sturdy, Made in US units that were based on Friedrich's Q-Star chassis with upgrades and electronic improvements (I had owned an 8,000 BTU Q-Star for 9 years as the primary AC for my NYC Studio apartment with ZERO problems) I have since moved upstairs to a larger apartment, it's 5 years later and the 12,000 BTU X-Star still cools the (even larger) area like a champ. Three years ago, I needed a new AC for the bedroom in my new apartment. The 325 sq ft room has southern exposure, windows on two walls and the apartment is on the top floor making it warmer than average for the square footage. I decided to try one of Friedrich's "cheaper" CP Models... a big mistake. The CPO8E10 ($295) was flimsy, vibrated a great deal (especially the front panel) and was based on a Panasonic design. It lasted 2 1/2 summers before it stopped cooling last week. I had been reading about Friedrich's new KUHL units and I was very impressed with their design and features. There are two types of KUHL chassis, the smaller "SQ" which are again based on the reliable "Q Chassis" and the new "SS, SM & SL" which are larger units. I decided to purchase an 8000 BTU SQ08N10 ($675) and I could not be happier. This model combines the sturdiness of the reliable old "Q chassis" with all new electronics and a beautiful new front panel design. The compressor is virtually silent and there is ZERO vibration. The downside: The timer is ludicrously hard to program and the new, much touted "FriedrichLink" WiFi adapter (Even mentioned on the outside of the box) which will allow you to control your AC from anywhere using your iPhone, is NOT YET AVAILABLE. Also, even at this price point Friedrich felt the need to move production of ALL US made room air conditioners from its San Antonio plant to the company's new facility in Monterrey, Mexico in November 2007. Sigh.ADDED 4/18/2013: "FriedrichLink" App is now up and running ! To enable it, You must purchase a separate "Dongle" WiFi receiver which plugs in under the front panel. You can now control your KUHL from a computer or iPhone; LOVE it ! Friedrich KWIFI wi-fi kit for all Kuhl & Kuhl+ series models

5Two units covers 700 sq ft. wonderfully
By T.K.
I purchased these two units this month and have installed them without a hitch. My windows are older (1957), and the "curtains" that attach on left and right of the unit could not be screwed to the window as instructed. This wasn't a huge problem since no air conditioner I've ever owned allowed this so I was already expecting it. The installation instructions were very thorough and helped me install each unit within 30 minutes. I haven't been able to test the cooling feature yet since the temperatures here in NY are not yet above 60 degrees, but using the fan is a nice feature when you are unable to control the heat (always above 80 degrees in the apartment) in the cold months. I can say with the carbon filter, my breathing air is so much better. The filters are easy to install and the power cord can be positioned on left or right of the unit. I did find it a little tedious to move the power cord from the left to the right side by removing the front panel of the unit, but it's nice to at least be able to, unlike so many other air conditioners. I also have a FriedrichLink adapter on each unit allowing me to control them via the web and the Android app (iPhone app is also available for Apple lovers). I'll try my best to provide an update once the warmer weather comes and I can test out the cooling and timers. I highly recommend this product for the construction, installation instructions, technical support (regarding FriedrichLink) and quality. Once I can test the noise, quality of cooling and timers I'll provide a change in rating along with some PROS/CONS.

5Outstanding air conditoner
By enngage
This is my second Friedrich's air conditioner. If you're looking for top notch quality fantastic build and a vary quiet unit this is the one you're looking for. Please know these units are not cheap but you get what you pay for and it's not made in china. I will only purchase the Kuhl series from now on. Be warned that Friedrich's does make an economy series that I would not recommend. The Kuhl series has every feature imaginable so it won't disapoint. One other note is that Friedrich's units are some what heavier than other cheaper units due to their build quality.

5Both The IS6200 And IS6300 Are Wonderful Steamers
By ladyfingers
I already own the earlier model to this one, the Rowenta IS6200 Compact Valet Full Size Garment Steamer with Foot Operated On-Off Switch 1500 Watt, Blue and I love it. The only real drawback the older model has (and so do many other steamers) is one of safety. Shirt and other clothes edges need to be held taut while steaming. It's inevitable that at some point hot steam and fingers will come into contact with each other. Believe me, that steam is mighty hot. Rowenta took care of the problem by adding a support roll that acts like a vertical ironing board. I was very happy with the older model, but this new feature is well thought out and a welcome addition. Steaming can now be safely done pretty much single-handed, thanks to the expandable support. I still hold down an edge once in awhile, but a whole lot less than before. Both steamers heat up in about 60 seconds, and users will appreciate the integrated hanger system. Clothes hang nicely from it, and steaming all sides/angles can be accomplished in about 1-2 minutes. Try doing that with an iron. The Master Valet lays collars flat and wrinkles disappear in seconds. I'm especially impressed with heavier polo/golf type shirts and 100% cotton shirts made in India (the kind that always come out of the dryer a wrinkly mess). Their varying textures make traditional ironing a real challenge, but the Rowenta Master Valet easily de-wrinkles these hard to iron fabrics.I still iron dress pants for a more defined crease, but the bulk of our pressing needs is now done with the Rowenta Master Valet. It's portable and versatile. Steaming drapes and curtains is a cinch, and it can freshen up any upholstery (car, chair, bedding). It was invaluable in helping us take down some stubborn wallpaper. We also bought a playard for our grandchild and the skirt surrounding it was a wrinkled mess--Rowenta to the rescue. It looks wonderful now.The hook for the steam hose is centrally located in the hanger system on both models, which makes it hard to hang up while in use. My simple solution is to work right next to the laundry tub. That way I can take advantage of hanging/steaming clothes and then drape the steamer hose over the laundry tub while I'm switching out to the next garment.I prefer the smaller hanger that comes with the cheaper model because shirt collars button easier, but that's a small detail. I also wondered if people like me who already own the Compact Valet (IS6200) couldn't upgrade to the Master Valet (IS6300) by simply buying the pole that has the expandable support roll. They seem to be the same dimensions and pretty much identical in appearance. There is nothing on the Rowenta website offering that, but it's a shame consumers who own the older model couldn't appreciate and use the support roll too.If cost is an issue and care is taken while steaming, go for the cheaper model. It does just as good a job as this newer version except it has no vertical support roll. The new Master Valet does seems like a safer option though, thanks to the added back support. I highly recommend either, depending on your cost and safety needs.

3Needs a hose that doesn't collapse
By Marilyn T. Schoberg
We own a clothing store and have always used Jiffy steamers. I was anxious to give this one a try.The good news: Powerful steam capabilities, roll & press support is awesome, hanger at the top is a great idea. The bad news: It needs to be a foot higher and the hose needs to be made of a stiffer material. When steaming the bottom of a shirt, you need to get the hose way down, at which point it doubles over on itself and shuts off the steam. This is a major design flaw. The Jiffy tubing is made of vinyl that is quite stiff. The Rowenta hose is covered in a sort of fabric reminiscent of the old canister vacuum cleaner hoses. I assume the inside tubing is also vinyl but it's a very soft vinyl. If they would use a heavier tubing and extend the height a foot, this would be an awesome appliance because the steam power is so great.

5Worth Owning
By John Jorgensen
I picked this up hoping to find a more convenient alternative to ironing all the time, and it's delivered. There's a LOT to be said in favor of this item. For one thing, assembling, storing, and moving this are all surprisingly simple. It's a lot lighter than it looks, and while the wheels it rolls on aren't the best, they do the job adequately. It's a very compact device and fits quite nicely in whatever corner you care to squeeze it into. The power cord wraps up neatly and hangs on a conveniently located latch, though the plug is . . . somehow upside down. It's hard to explain, but it throws me every time I use it.The whaddayacallit, that pulls down like a window blind to provide a flat surface to push garments against, is decent, not particularly bad, not particularly good. The frame of the thing is very convenient for hanging shirts over, and flipping them around when the front is done and it's time for the back is simple enough. All in all the setup could stand to be a bit wider, and there's no really good way to do sleeves.Pants are a good deal harder to do; the bar that they're supposed to be draped over is far too narrow, and the clips that hold them in place, aside from leaving little bunched-up folds, hold them in such a way that you need to flip them a total of five times. I've taken to awkwardly hanging them over the top of the frame instead. As far as handling goes, it's very easy to use. The plastic handle is one piece that leads directly into the steamer head; after a while the plastic gets a bit warm to the touch. The handle's also a bit short, and for me to hold it comfortably, I usually end up with the heel of my hand touching the hose that feeds steam into it, which gets hotter still. However, neither of these are really uncomfortably hot. That hose, by the way, is nice and long, giving a very full range of movement. The makers brag about its one-handed operation; I find that most of the time my "free" hand is tugging on some corner of the garment to keep the fabric taut, but I really don't care. It's not like I have big plans for my left hand at steaming time. A full tank of water allows me to steam a LOT of garments; actually, I've been using it for most of a week and have yet to refill it. There's a fairly pleasant smell to the thing that vaguely puts me in mind of an upscale business hotel. I'm surprised by how much FUN it is to operate, especially when compared with an iron and ironing board.Accessories: There's a little fabric brush thingy that can be attached to the steamer head, and some sort of sock for use on delicate fabrics; I haven't had the chance to test either yet, but both look perfectly serviceable at a glance. And in the spirit of "Order your X in the next fifteen minutes and we'll throw in a free Y!" there's also a very nice heavy-duty lint brush; sharing my house with two dogs, I'm a huge fan of that. Now, how about performance? It's not quite as good at removing wrinkles as an iron would be, and it just can't give you a really sharp crease. Nevertheless, it does a perfectly adequate job for all but the most formal dress-to-impress occasions. A shirt can be satisfactorily steam pressed in just a few minutes, pants a little longer, though of course the heavier the material the more time and effort are required. I really am glad to own this steamer. Not sure if it's worth the sticker price (I got mine free in exchange for writing this review), but that would be my only hangup. Otherwise, it carries my highest recommendation.

5Fantastic for moving heavy objects
By K. Murphy
I was able to move a refrigerator (31dx36wx71h)alone, without risking either my back or my brand new hardwood floors. The Airsled moved the refrigerator over the cardboard pad, across 1" pile carpeting, across the brand new flooring, and into the cabinet space made for the refrigerator in five minutes; a distance of 20'~! Fantastic.

5Why did I wait so long????
By Paul Miller
I figured the odds of damaging a floor from moving appliances in my remodeling business was bound to catch up with me. I had been considering buying one for several years and am kicking myself for not doing so sooner. This thing is great! Our customers have also been impressed with how well it works, as well as, that we care and respect their home enough to have made the purchase of the AirSled in the first place -- there is great value in that alone and impossible to put a price on.Bottom line; it performs as promised, is simple to operate, and it's fun to use too!I would highly recommend this product -- and the AirSled company, as well.

5Terrific lower-priced additions to the Miele canister vacuum line
By hyperbolium
Miele is a family-owned German manufacturer of home appliances. The company's philosophy of continuous improvement ("Immer Besser") has made them a favorite throughout the world. Their products don't have bargain prices, but provide value in high quality design and manufacturing that results in superior performance and durability. Miele was founded in 1899 and began producing vacuum cleaners in 1927; their vacuums have become favorites of professionals worldwide, including many top-end hotel staffs. The Miele S2 line of canister vacuums is new for 2009, offering the quality and many of Miele's standard features at a lower price. There are four S2 models, all sharing the same 1200-watt base vacuum. The canister has six power settings and a standard air filter that catches 94% of particles down to 0.3 microns. The Olympus model is the lowest priced of the S2 line, and features a floor/carpet combo head (SBD350-3), non-electric hose and a telescoping wand. The Capri model substitutes the air-powered Turbobrush (STB205-3) for the floor/carpet combo head, and adds the Parquet Floor Brush (SBB-3). The Delphi model substitutes a power head (SEB217-3), electric hose (SES116) and electric telescoping wand (SET220) for the non-powered components of the Olympus. The Titan model retains the power components of the Delphi and adds the parquet floor brush (SBB-3) and active HEPA filter.Note that all S2 models can support the power hose and brush, but only the Delphi and Titan include it as part of the package. Similarly, all S2 models support the active HEPA filter, but only the Titan includes it in its package. If you don't currently need a power head you can buy the Olympus or Capri and add the power components later; you'll pay more in the end, but you won't have to buy power components now that you may not need for a few years. The non-electric combo head works well on smooth flooring, is usable on short-pile carpet, and is difficult to use on deeper-pile carpet.Like all Miele vacuum cleaners, the S2 is well designed and manufactured in Germany. The vacuum has a range of 29.5 feet from the end of the self-retracting power cord to the tip of the brush. The unit is light (under 10 lbs), nicely balanced and moves easily in any direction on its casters. The top-exhaust design allows you to vacuum easily with the canister standing up, such as on steps. The motor is surprisingly quiet, particularly at the lower power levels. The six power levels allow you to switch from floors and carpets to shelves and tabletops without accidentally grabbing objects or papers instead of dirt or dust. The S2 cleans very well and is a pleasure to use. The base has notches in which the hose can be parked, one for when the base is on its wheels, one for when the base is standing. This is a great touch, useful for temporarily standing the hose while you move a piece of furniture, and helpful for storing the vacuum in a closet without breaking down the hose and wand. Perhaps the only weakness of the S2 is the "varioclip" for tool storage, which rides somewhat uncomfortably on the hose rather than more naturally on the base. Changing the filter and bag are each a snap, and an indicator tells you when the bag is full. Finally, what compromises does the S2 line make from the more expensive S4 and S5 lines? The most obvious changes are to external components: a few parts, such as the bumper strip that surrounds the canister, are made from hard plastic rather than softer rubber. The operating radius is a few feet shorter (due to a shorter power cord), and the accessory brushes use some lower-cost materials (nylon versus natural bristle brush, plastic instead of metal). Inside, the S2 canister uses Miele's "CleanAir System" construction, while the S4 and S5 canister use its "Sealed System." Miele doesn't offer a detailed comparison of the two, but one might assume the latter system provides an extra measure of dust capture that may be more appropriate for those with allergic sensitivities. The changes made to lower the price of the S2 line will make small differences in daily use, but shouldn't compromise the vacuum's core ability to clean. Those who are especially sensitive to dust should consider the HEPA-equipped Titan model, or stepping up to the S4 or S5; those with less stringent needs will find the S2 a terrific entry point to the Miele line of high quality vacuums. If budget is no issue, look at the S5 line, but if value-per-dollar is a major consideration, the S2 line will bring you Miele's engineering and manufacturing prowess at a more affordable price. 4Has its Pros and Cons
By PhotoBuff
>> 8/19/2010 <> 12/19/2010 UPDATE <> UPDATE 1/2/2013The locking mechanism on the telescopic wand broke at least 6+ months ago, where the handle goes in to, it will still go in to it, but just won't lock. Recently, close to the tip of the handle started to crack. Had to go to an authorized dealer nearby to get the 2 replacement parts, which cost about $55. Now the power cord will not rewind back into its compartment, not sure if it's fixable or will need a new part or two. However, it has been 2+ years since I got it and my "OCD" father using it at least once per day and he tends to bang the vacuum head against walls. He vacuums so much, that it's driving everyone nuts, I kind of like to throw the vacuum in to the ocean.>> UPDATE 5/6/2013Maybe it's my OCD dad, but the cable will not rewind into the housing now, that's not a big deal though. One thing I did noticed is that when the bag is pretty full, you can smell the dust coming from the exhaust vent, plus the exhaust vent blows straight up, at full power, it's strong enough to move the ceiling fan. I believe buying the optional HEPA filter may be a good idea to reduce the smell, which I have not tried yet.>> UPDATE 7/1/2013Did finally buy the Miele AH-30 Active HEPA Filter. WOW, what a BIG difference in the smell that comes out, compared to the thin filter that comes with the bags. Well worth it, especially if there are anyone at home that has an allergen issue. For average users, this filter will last about 1 yr.

5Awesome vacuum
By Tina L. Street
I've never had a good vacuum. Well, a grandmother's cast-off electrolux, but that doesn't really count. It's life changing. I've spent a lifetime hating this household chore. I'm in a new house with vast hardwood and tile floors, and a few area rugs. And up in the mountains where tracked dirt and blown-in dust are real issues. Really, this little vac is life changing! It's light, quiet, and incredibly powerful. It does a fantastic job on hardwood and tile, and cleans my rugs well and easily. Switching to the tools for upholstery, corners, windowsills and stairs is quick and easy. So easy to get around furniture and into corners. I'm impressed with all of the little convenience features...adjustable length wand, suction control at your fingertips, retractable cord, hook for the wand when you need a break. Maybe our having two German cars is a clue, but this is a well designed, well built, practical piece of equipment. I couldn't be more pleased with what I consider a BIG purchase, and am saving up to buy one for my daughter for Christmas. Life changing, I tell you.....
