5So far so good - a big step up from a 25 year old kenmore
By Stephanie Sullivan
I am a fix-it-up kind of person, but even I reach a point where I'll replace my 25 year old Kenmore. I did a lot of looking around and found a lot of people didn't like high-efficiency washers. I also wanted another top loader washer with high capacity. I want to be able to wash my king-size comforter which my old washer would not. Finally I wanted to replace my washer/dryer as a set. In the past 5 years I'd repaired each more than once. It was time.I looked at Whirlpool/Maytag along with Samsung and several other brands. The LG had better customer reviews and the complaints were mostly less severe than the other brands. The matching dryer I paired this with is the LG DLE4870W which is the electric model. This unit has a pretty wide range of settings. One of the most useful is the extra water function. It is great with light and fluffy materials like my comforters which can trick the washer into thinking the load is smaller than it is. It's not terribly loud but some of the sounds almost sound like science fiction. The spin is quite fast and sounds like the "warp drive" sound effect from the original star trek.I have not had the washer very long and I've only run several loads. The tub is massive. Regular stuff - clothes, towels, sheets, etc. What would have taken several loads in my old washer fit easily with room to spare. I found mixing sheets with velour/fleece throws gave me an unbalanced load in one run. The display had a code that sent me for the handy laminated quick reference card. There it was - the load was unbalanced and I paused the cycle and moved a few things around. No problem. I hit the resume button and away it went. Clothes are great and come out much more dry than my old washer. They dry a lot faster too. The fleece throw and heavier items retain more water, but I think that's no surprise. My favorite thing is without a center post the big open tub took my king-size comforter with much room to spare and washed it to perfection. I could not have been more pleased.Another interesting feature is called "smart diagnosis" where you can call LG and with a particular set of button pushes get a set of tones to play into the phone. These can be interpreted by the rep to help diagnose a problem. I hope I never need it, but it is cool!I'll update this review in a few months when I get to know the machine better.April 26, 2013 update:I've been using this washer for a few weeks now. I'm still very pleased. What used to take 3 loads in my old washer only needs 2 loads in the LG. The quality of wash has been excellent for a wide variety of items. With light fluffy items I now habitually use the water-plus feature to make sure the load sensor does not get tricked.Cycle times are 1h to 1.5h for my normal loads. This compared to about 40m for my old washer. On the other hand my matching dryer gets things dry in only 30m to 45m compared to 1h to 1.5h for my old dryer, so total wash/dry cycle time is about the same. I have heard the high speed spin in the washer causes wrinkes, but I noticed that if I take things out promptly at the end of the dryer cycle I have no wrinkle issue.June 2, 2013 update:I've noticed the time remaining counter seems to pretty much follow real-time until the last minute. Almost like whenever you are waiting for the progress bar when installing software. That last little bit takes forever! With my LG WT4870CW that last minute of the spin cycle (on normal setting) usually lasts between 3 and 4 minutes. To be fair, it is clearly described as estimated time and I'm happy to have the clothes spun a little more dry. Just one of those observations for when you see there's only two minutes left and trying to decide whether to wait for it or go back to whatever you were doing.Hope this is helpful to some folks.

4Great machine. Removes tough dirt and grease, But
By David W. Cook
It is complicated to operate. The metal is thin and dents easily. It sits on thick rubber pads that let it jiggle and wobble some, nothing unruly. It's ability to remove stains is remarkable. It is so quite that you barely hear it. It looks cool. It plays a jingle when laundry is complete, or you can turn the sounds off. It spins really fast, but doesn't seem to remove any more water from clothes than my 10 yr old machine I replaced. I would recommend it if you like gadgets and learn new things quickly. Only one wash setting is short. 15-35 mins. The rest are over 50 mins. One is 1 hr 10 mins.

5Washer heaven .. after 3 other brands
By T Hyde
Consumer Reports had high praise for several of the LG models, so after a string of 3 lemon washers in a row .. I decided to give LG a try.Wow, this is really a nice washer. Quiet, well made, and an abundance of features (way more than I'll ever use)My last washer was a nightmare front loader that only made it 13 months .. and after reading a lot of issues with front loaders, I decided to go back to what just seems right .. a TOP LOADER.This LG unit is really nice, because un-like the older top-loaders, this unit has no pedestal. leaving way more room for things like a large comforter and clothes don't get tangled in it.This unit is also HE and can use the fancy new detergents. My only complaint thus far, is really minor and no biggie, on the cold cycles .. sometimes the pods don't break up completely. So I just use liquid for cold cycles.Other than that .. really a great washer thus far (after 3 months of use)Even plays a nice little jingle when the wash is done. Thank You LG!
