5Amazing Juicer! Same juice quality & pulp as a $1000 brand!
By Yoga Nut
I juice almost daily, and have for years!! So, you must understand I am a bit of a juicing snob. I have researched every juicer on the market, and am very particular about juice quality and nutrient value of my juice.I have owned four juicers in the past year, with this being one of them. Here's my take on the other two, and then more in depth on the Kuvings.Breville Juice Fountain: Nice easy juicer to use. Quick and easy, and allows for big pieces of fruit to be put down the chute, so less chopping. Clean-up is the easiest of the the three. Great intro juicer to get into the habit without a lot of work. Not so great on juicing veggies, and especially not great for greens like kale. Which is the main reason I decided to upgrade from the Breville because I juice greens daily. Nice choice if you'll just be doing oranges, apples, etc. Not very versatile, but great at the basic fruits. It's a great all-round centrifugal juicer, and you can purchase for around $150-200. But in all honestly, a masticating juicer will give your more bang for your buck in the juice quality, juice quantity, and LESS pulp department.Angel 5500: Amazing juicer. But, it comes at a hefty price tag of $900-1100. It is ALL stainless steel and built to last. It's unsurpassed juice quality, with very little waste/pulp. You will really make your money back in the end with more juice output and less pulp. It's fantastic for fruits and veggies, and does a tremendous job on greens, which is why I wanted it. The Angel is a masticating, dual-ager machine, which means it mashes and then juices the food. It works at low-temperature and slower speed than Breville so juice quality is higher and juice lasts longer before it oxidizes. I really can't say enough about this machine. I will admit clean-up takes about 2 minutes longer than with the Breville, but for me that's a trade-off I'm willing to take for better quality, more nutrients, and less waste.Kruvings NJE-358OU: This is a great juicer for those who would like a masticating juicer with one auger. One thing I really liked about the juicer was the fact that it really "pulled" the food into the feed tube. Where as with my Angel I sometimes I have to push it in. The feed tube on the Kuvings is smaller than the three juicers I'm comparing, so you will have to spend some time cutting up the fruits and veggies in order for them to fit in the tube. The Kuvings is almost all made of plastic, which isn't a big deal, I just wonder about durability over years of use.The juice quality with the Kuvings is very high. Better than that of the Breville, but slightly less than the Angel. It's a great tasting "thick" juice, but no pulp in the juice. Here's the juicer review you've been waiting for!!Kruvings NS-950 Silent Upright Masticating Juicer: This juicer amazed me. It gave almost identical juice quality as my $1000 Angel!! And, was faster than my Angel and easier to clean! The other thing I loved about the Upright Kuvings was that it feeds itself. With the Angel, I admit I have to actively "push" the produce in. The Upright Kuvings did create about 5-10% more pulp than my Angel, but strangely enough seemed to produce about an equal amount of juice. The juice quality with the Kuvings is very high. Better than that of the Breville, but slightly less than the Angel. It's a great tasting "thick" juice, but no pulp in the juice. One thing to be aware of, is that the Kuvings Upright has safety features that are great, but you have to line-up the spots accurately or the machine won't turn on. No biggie, just have to get used to putting things together just right. I love that the Upright Kuvings takes up less counter space, and the design is also less messy on your countertop. The other two styles of masticating juicers tend to be a bit messier than an upright model. For the price, juice quality, speed, and clean-up THE KUVINGS UPRIGHT is the clear winner!!!!!I juiced my daily recipe with all four juicers:2 apples5-6 stalks celeryfresh ginger (1-3 inches)1/2 peeled lemon5-8 kale leavesThe Breville produced the least amount of juice and most pulp. The Kuvings NJE produced the medium amount of juice and pulp, while the Angel and Upright Kuvings produced the most juice by about 1 1/2 cups.As far as pulp, the Angel produced only about 1 cup of the pulp. The Breville produced about 3 cups of pulp. The Kuvings NJE produced about 2 cups of pulp, which the Upright Kuvings produced about 1 1/2 cups of pulp.Clean-up on the Kuvings NJE was about the same as the Angel. In fact, it might have taken a tiny bit longer. The clean-up on the Kuvings Upright was a snap! It comes with two handy tools to assist with cleaning.I'd say Breville clean-up is 3 minutes, Angel is 5 minutes, and Kuvings NJE is 6 minutes, and Kuvings Upright is 4 minutes.I really don't know why anyone would by the Centrifugal Breville, as there are so many better options at that price point that give you MORE juice and LESS pulp!! I highly recommend both Kuvings masticating juicers, depending on your budget. I also love the Angel juicer, but taking all into consideration (including PRICE) the Kuvings Upright is the clear WINNER of these four models!!!HAPPY JUICING!!!

5A much improved juicer
By MJ23447
This juicier is almost identical to the Omega VRT350. I happen to own the VRT350 so this review is going to be very much the same as the review I wrote for that unit. However, there are some important differences that made me give this unit 5 stars compared to the 1 start I gave to the VRT350.For starters there is a written warranty in the box for 10 years that clearly specifies what is covered. There is an address and a number to call. This is a huge improvement over the Omega which had no warranty in the box at all. With that out of the way I can move on to the juicer itself. This is my 3rd juicer so I have some perspective to compare. As I noted earlier I have a VRT350 and I also have used a high speed centrifugal Cuisinart juicer too. I have done my research and decided a while ago that I wanted a top-fed masticating juicer (at least partially due to very limited free space in my kitchen). When I first opened up the NS-950 I was pleased to see that all of the plastic is very heavy duty and none of it has that plastic smell that some cheaper appliances have. It is also great that the product is BPA free because the plastic parts come in very forceful contact with the juiced fruits/vegetables.One part I'm surely not worried about is the motor. It is a large induction motor that looks and feels like it could power a small boat. However, the strength of the motor might lull you into a false sense of security. Getting this unit to properly juice takes patience. Just because the motor can power through something does not mean that is how you should juice it. A masticating juicer is fundamentally different from a high speed centrifugal juicer. With a spinning blade style juicer you can throw just about anything into it. This is not the case with the masticating juicer--you need to plan your juicing. The reward is a high quality juice that can be stored for up to 72 hours. One of the major problems with the high-speed juicers is that they operate at such high speed that they introduce a lot of oxygen to the juice. This means that if you store it for any length of time the nutrients in the juice will be oxidized and thus less useful for your body.On juicing, just because it can fit in the opening does not mean you should put it in. A pretty thick carrot can fit into the opening but whole carrots are going to place too much stress on the plastic parts. Since this machine relies on pressure to remove the juice you have to be mindful of what you're putting in and how fast you are putting it in. You can also put in whole apple cores but that might damage the auger (it is tough plastic but not indestructible). If you treat this machine like one of those centrifugal juicers that spin at 14,000 RPM you WILL break it, guaranteed. Maybe not immediately but fairly soon and you won't be able to get Kuvings to fix it because that will be considered wear and tear. Think about how big a piece of something you would put in your mouth and then don't put anything larger than that into this juicer. That should serve you pretty well. Remember that a very powerful motor is pressing a very hard vegetable into a metal surface held together by plastic. On the upside if you feed the unit carefully and intelligently you can get a very nice glass of juice. You'll have to plan ahead. If you feed too much of a stringy vegetable (like say whole stalks of dandelion leaf) it will get wrapped around the auger and clog the output chute. So chop long stalks in 1/2 or into 1/4ths and follow something stringy with something that isn't. That will keep the machine moving and juicing efficiently. Also, if you try to juice ONLY a leafy green this unit tends to produce a very foamy juice. What I do is use some carrot slices along with my green (kale, collard greens, broccoli rabe, etc) to keep things moving and get non-foamy juice. But, know thyself! If you know you want to throw stuff into the juicer really fast and not think much about it then please consider one of the high-speed centrifugal units that spins really fast.On cleaning, this unit comes with both a scrubbing brush and a scrub brush tool. The scrubbing brush is just your standard brush on one and and an elongated tip on the other (for cleaning out the cup once you're done). The brush tool is different and it is this very cool circular piece that fits over the outside of the extraction cup and scrubs by twisting. It is hard to really fully describe but it is a great little tool for cleaning the outside of the extraction cup. But even without that cleanup is pretty easy; mostly all you need is running water. As I mentioned early in this review the NS-950 is almost identical to the VRT350. I'm just going to list the upgrades here so you can decide which one you want to get (because the VRT350 is a bit cheaper). The NS-950 has a rubberized cover over the on/off switch and let me tell you this matters (after having received electric shocks twice by the VRT350 I know the importance of this). The holes in the NS-950 extraction cup are just a tiny bit smaller than the VRT350 and it makes a difference as the juice has less pulp in it. The exit chute for pulp is slightly larger on the NS-950 and it matters. The NS-350 has a written warranty in the box and the VRT350 did not. Finally, the auger on the NS-950 seems to be a little bit tougher and that is important because the auger on my VRT350 is beat up pretty badly and they are expensive to replace.

5The Ultimate Juicer ...
By delicateflower152
The "Kuvings NS-950 Silent Upright Masticating Juicer" may be the ultimate appliance for those who regularly juice and those who are planning to do so. This is a quality product; the engineering and contemporary design are apparent. Solidly built, the "Kuvings NS-950 Silent Upright Masticating Juicer" is not light weight and, to prevent your having to move it repeatedly, will likely find its home on your counter. This juicer is easy to assemble using the instructions included with the product; intuitive and mechanically minded individuals should be able to assemble it without checking the directions. Surprisingly quiet although not silent, this powerful appliance produces juice without excess foaming as well as a dry pulp. Using the brush and cleaning tool which are included with the "Kuvings NS-950 Silent Upright Masticating Juicer" makes this juicer easy to clean. Once you have juiced several timesd, total time from starting to juice through clean-up is approximately 10 minutes.Although a very powerful appliance, the "Kuvings NS-950 Silent Upright Masticating Juicer" has a reasonable footprint. When assembled, the unit's height is approximately 16 ¾"; the depth is approximately 10"; and the width, without the juice and pulp receptacles, is approximately 8". The unit is about the size of a blender, so if you have enough counter space, the "Kuvings NS-950 Silent Upright Masticating Juicer" will not seem to have taken over your kitchen. The "Kuvings NS-950 Silent Upright Masticating Juicer" was shipped inside a box which came from the manufacturer. It was sealed using "cling wrap" and nothing else. Fortunately, the wrap held and the box, as well as interior packing, was very sturdy. The smaller pieces which are components of this juicer are packed in a separate box contained within the main interior box. If you are ordering the "Kuvings NS-950 Silent Upright Masticating Juicer" as a gift, you need to be aware that the product name is shown on the shipping box. A video and recipe book which are included with the "Kuvings NS-950 Silent Upright Masticating Juicer" are excellent resources to review before using your juicer. Adding a ten-year warranty to the "Kuvings NS-950 Silent Upright Masticating Juicer" only enhances this already attractive, quality juicer. Definitely a five star product.
