Very good unit.

4 1/2 stars. The SS10N10 is a very good unit. It is very quiet, pours out ample cold air, comes with good hardware & even an on-board nut driver with co. logo to remove the front cover. The remote is well-made and full-featured. The instructions are good and come in 3 languages. (E,S & F) This unit does require that you first mount a steel enclosure. The unit is heavy so you must mount brackets to your outside wall or if you have a wide sill the mounting brackets can be shaped to fit between the sill and the unit. The washable filter is large and well made. It comes with one activated carbon filter that fits in the filter. They are available in 3 packs. The cord can exit the unit from either side which is a nice feature. I had to slightly enlarge the opening for the cord as I have a wide interior sill, that was easy with the help of a pair of tin-snips and a file. I have not used the program functions yet, but they look straight forward. My only criticism of this unit is that the top rail that attaches to your lower window could be slightly taller and the side board filler panel system could be better. They are a bit tricky to install on a second floor installation. (requires two people) Also, there are two screws in the housing that will push into your sill if not removed. The unit is a big improvement over it's predecessor which I thought was a good unit. It's a good looking unit and you can get the covers in a choice of colors. And it's not made in China.

A great leap forward for Friedrich

I have had Friedrich air conditioners for many years. This one is a big leap forward. Best features:--Powerful air circulation--reaches far into the room--Great air-chilling (just like the old days before Freon was banned)--WiFi connectivity for remote controls and schedule programming--Very quiet at low speeds--Same great Friedrich build quality as earlier machinesUpdate 8/12/13: There was an issue with the WiFi scheduling software. I reported it to Friedrich and they fixed it within a week. After about six weeks of use, we can report that we really love this machine.

I did not install it myself but can warn buyers to make sure the hard foam inserts inside the machine are removed as well as the cardboard on the left. The building maintenance man did a good job installing the machine as there was only a very slight vibration. Its the vibration that exacerbates the noise. However,he was not aware he had to take the foam inserts out. These may cause damage to the machine and if something goes wrong the warranty is invalidated. My boyfriend told me they use the same size chassis for all the KUHL A/C's from 10,000 and up. There is lots of room inside and he thought that was why they inserted the foam- to keep the parts from moving.I had the 10,000 BTU installed yesterday afternoon so I slept with it one night. I set it to 67 on low fan. Using low fan keeps it very quiet and does not compromise the temp. It was freezing, the way I like it. I love to bundle up in the covers.What you have to remember is turn it on HIGH a couple of hours before you go to bed because it takes a long time to cool the room. Thats because it doesn't use freon as that is illegal now. I had it at 60 and high fan. When I was ready to go to bed I turned the temp up to 67 and turned the fan down to 1. I use fans in my room and had those on as well. Tonight, I will turn off the fans and see if I still feel cold. BTW, my boyfriend was happy with the A/C as well!I have 2 other Friedrichs in my apt - in the den and in the living room. This is most expensive, but is the quietest!
