Awesome blender.

I have been shopping for a blender for some time now, for just making smoothies. Comparing price, quality and power on several units. Some costing as much as $500 with a plastic jar and base with 4 chopping blades. The Calphalon XL 9 speed blender is exactly what I been looking for. It has a thick glass jar, die cast metal base with 9 smooth button controls and 6 stainless steel blades. For only $129. It has 600 watts of power to tackle all of my needs. This is more then enough for me for fruit, veggie smooothies. It has this unique smoothie program, when pressed, runs for 30 seconds liquifying and then 30 seconds on and off chopping. And then it powers off. What an amazing feature. Just to note, on the bottom of the jar there are two small extending pivets that has to align with the base of the unit or it will not power on. Sorry, I actually did not purchased my unit on Amazon. It was at a local store. There was a 20% savings.

I have read a ton of reviews on various blenders. I purchased the nutri bullet and loved it for smoothies but the motor stopped working at 2 months. The only thing i didn't like about the bullet was the size of the cup, I would have loved to make smoothies in larger quantities.I purchased the Ninja Professional Blender for 99.00, i thought for sure the 1000 watt blender would make a smooth smoothie. Unfortunately, it did not. I will be returned to the store.In desparation, i purchased the Calphalon 9 speed blender for 129.00 and to my surprise it made me a smooth smoothie. I used kale, frozen mixed berries, raw beets, dates, apple and banana and water. This blender produce a smooth and creamy smoothie. Definitely 5 stars.

Perfect for perfect smoothies

I make smoothies regularly and my old, cheapie blender did OK but it struggled and I had to constantly turn it off, push the fruit down, turn it on, and repeat until everything blended. I always ended up with chunks of food in my drink, too. I decided on the Calphalon XL 9 because I liked that the jar was glass and that it was the same size on the bottom as the top - unlike most blenders which are narrower at the bottom, and I liked that it had a button specifically for smoothies. This button is preprogrammed to do 30 seconds of liquify and 30 seconds of pulse and then it stops on its own. You can stop the preprogram at any time or continue it after it's done. So far, my smoothies have been absolutely perfect. I was surprised someone said they ended up with chunks of ice in their drink because I've put as many as 10 HUGE ice cubes in with the fruit, pushed the Smoothies button, and the smoothie came out cold with no chunks of ice. In fact, you'd never know ice was ever mixed in with the fruit! The one thing to be aware of is that the glass jar is super sized at 56-oz capacity so it's heavy when it's empty, obviously heavier when it's full. I'm very happy with my XL 9.
