3Powerful, but could be easier to use
By jeezaloo
This microwave is massive and really powerful. It doesn't have superfluous buttons, and it seems to defrost and re-heat evenly.But...The dial, which is simple enough to use, is much harder to use than a simple keypad. It's very sensitive, non-linear (meaning between 1 and 10 you can pick the exact number of seconds, after 10 you can only get to the nearest 5, after 1 minute, only the nearest 10, after 5 minutes, only the nearest 15) and it's always a guess how far to turn it. Turn too far, then adjust. Then adjust again. And maybe again. I always know what I want to set it for and I could touch "4" then "5" much faster than I can find ":45" on the dial. Why'd they fix something that wasn't broken? To set the power level, you have to press the Power Level button once for each 10% you want to go down. So if you want 90%, you press it once. If you want 20% to soften butter, you have to press it 8 times! Really? Why couldn't they use the dial for THAT?As others have said, the screen is too dim. You have to be right in front of it to read it.I haven't tried it on very many things yet, but the sensor seems to let foods overcook, even if you adjust it with the "Less" setting. And the instructions don't line up with the oven's size. They say it will work with, e.g. 1-4 potatoes, or 4-16 oz. of fresh vegetables. I could easily fit 8 potatoes in there without crowding, or at least 2 pounds of vegetables. I got a big microwave because I cook for a big family. Don't give me space and then tell me I can't use it. And there's no sensor setting for beverages.I wanted to defrost for a fixed amount of time. So I pushed the Turbo Defrost button and then turned the dial to set the time. But you can't do that, unless you reduce the power (push Power Level 7 times) and do it manually. So what I was actually doing was setting the weight. Not what I wanted. I then set it the right way, but I didn't push "Stop/Reset" in between. What ended up happening was it did BOTH things since the default is 2 stage cooking. It was my mistake, but it doesn't seem to me like it should automatically do one thing after the other unless you tell it to.It's not obvious how to set the time. You have to press the Timer/Clock button twice, then set the time, then press the button again. You hardly ever have to do it, but it's just seldom enough that I forget each time and have to look it up.It beeps 5 times at the end of its cycle, whether you've opened the door or not."Quick Min" button sets the timer to one minute, but you still have to press Start. Why doesn't it just auto-start like both my old GE and Kitchen Aid microwaves did? And with a microwave this powerful, 30 seconds would be more useful than a minute.I know I'm picky, but I think they could have done better with the controls. And that dial is just a pain.

5Very large, excellent results!
By Marian A. Parrott
We have used Samsung and GE Profile microwaves, and this one is superior. It has enormous capacity. The interface is very convenient, although it takes a bit of getting used to because of the dial rather than a number pad. It is very powerful and heats quickly and very evenly. It comes with clear instructions. I have only one complaint about the interface, which is that the power setting does not display the power being used, so you have to remember what you programmed in (and hope that you didn't make a mistake because there's no feedback about what power is actually being used). The instructions could also be clearer about how to program multiple cook times -- the machine actually allow pre-programming of three time/power combinations, which is better than the two allowed by most machines. The inverter technology allow true differences in the power output. Most machines simply switch the microwave generator on and off proportionately. This microwave works better and avoids overheating or boiling over.

4Easy to use..but very dim display light
By K. L. Ross
This is our 3rd Panasonic microwave in 12 years because they are the only brand that fits in the "box" in our cabinetry and we find them to be a very good product. (yeah...I know, they should last more than 4-5 years, but I don't realistically expect that.) When we set this one up, we noticed that the display light that shows time, power level, etc. is extremely DIM and you have to sort of move your head around to catch it at a good angle to be able to read it. We called Panasonic customer service who were no help at all. They asked me if it was plugged in after I told them that the microwave worked fine, but the light was almost illegible. Really? How could the microwave work if I didn't have it plugged in. Then told me to try a few other things and kept repeating what the repair and warranty policy was---net, no help at all. I wasn't going to spend a few hours driving back and forth to a Panasonic repair dealership for a 15 minute old product that should have just been replaced and was going to work with Amazon for a replacement. When we were out today, we stopped in an appliance store--we learned that this line has some sort of new low power light (no...it's not LED, that would be bright) that is supposed to be very dim. We are keeping it because it fits in our space and seems to do the job just fine, but this low light thing is going to drive me crazy. Of course, it would have been helpful if the Panasonic rep knew her own products and just would have filled me in on this!

4true cooking range
By Cyborg
FTQ387LWGXI was looking for range I could use for cooking and baking for about 6 months now. I bought Samsung FTQ387LWGX and I am very pleased with it. I came to US from Europe and I was not able to get range that makes sense for some time and my old 70's GE was falling apart. Let's cut down to the chase and list what it is that makes this Samsung FTQ387LWGX so special.1. 2 single stage regular cooking elements for regular simmering.2. 1 double stage element heating up very fast like for boiling water.3. 1 triple stage element for cooking on big pots or oversized frying pan4. Warming element for keeping mashed potatoes or gravy hot.5. Top cooking elements come on full blast in about 15 seconds.6. knobs are solid heavy cast metal, not some plastic replica7. digi display for over is true touch with hard Lexan cover screen, not some ziplock joke soft plastic membrane like many others.8. convection bake for bread that works like good old Italian pizza oven9. proof for rising bread10. convection roast for meat and poultry that works like rotisserie11. regular bake traditional with hidden element for close container baking12. broil for top meat top sizzle and Brie / Camembert over bread melting13. convection over so quiet you cannot hear the fans14. warming drawer with sturdy construction not some wimpy make-believe15. solid steel one piece back not some combination of sharp corner plates16. true stainless heavy oven doors and handle not some look-alike plasticI was looking at Electrolux and Bosch, both nice units, and decided after close examination that Electrolux is too much of the Star Trek with potential problem if main board gets zapped and Bosch is too much of the plastic (so disappointed as I like the brand). I do use kitchen range to make my meal, not to just impress my friends. Never the less, Samsung FTQ387LWGX will still let you impress your friends, as it blends with GE and many others. If you are on the market for a range that will look certain way but you are only interested in boiling eggs and reheating baked beans, then this is not for you. Not a big deal, we all have our preferences. However if you are one of those people like me who need decent, heavy-duty, working and hi-tech range for preparing professionally seasoned tasty meal for one or sometimes fancy dinner for six, then you may want to have a look at this unit, just watch model "FTQ387LWGX". Samsung as manufacturer makes four varieties of these now, some budget, and to get all the goodies as specified, you need to trace this model to the letter.

1A CLEANING NIGHTMARE!!!
By whpacejr
We purchased our Samsung Freestanding Electronic Range (model FTQ387LWGX) on 10/21/2010. For the first 2-months, we were very satisfied with this product and we often ran the steam clean and self-clean functions to keep our oven looking shiny and new. The problem came when we cooked a dinner on New Year's Day 2011 which included an 11lb turkey in a roasting pan and later some side dishes. When my wife cleaned the kitchen that evening, she decided to run the self clean function as there appeared to be some grease that splattered on the sides of the oven and on the door and glass. To our horror, after the self clean cycle was finished, we discovered hundreds of DARK GREASE STREAKS that run down the length of and INSIDE/BETWEEN the glass on the oven door that cannot be reached through normal cleaning! We had never experienced this problem until we cooked a big meal (i.e., turkey) in the oven. I went to the Samsung.com website and searched for a solution. There I saw that another customer had written about this same problem and was seeking a solution from Samsung. The Samsung answer to this consumer on the website was to disassemble the door to clean the glass and to call 1-800-Samsung for assistance. I called Samsung today, the first business day after the holidays. The first line support person initially told me to "stick some paper bewteen the glass to clean the grease off." Can you imagine?!? Out of disbelief I asked her to repeat what she said. She immediately put me on hold to speak to a supervisor. When she came back, she told me that her supervisor said that the grease between the glass "was considered physical damage and they would have to send someone out to take care of it!" Furthermore, I was told that I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR SAID SERVICE! I demanded to talk to her supervisor, Jarvis, the "Installation Manager." Jarvis told me the same thing. When I asked Jarvis if he would ever buy this oven if he knew he would have this problem or if he knew the only solution was for a technician to come out to disassemble and clean the door--a "service" he would be charged for--he, not surprisingly, said "no." Yet, that is EXACTLY what Samsung expects of us, the consumers, to do! I demanded to talk to Jarvis' boss, the Samsung Operations Manager. I was told he was not in but that he would contact me tomorrow. I will wait to see what happens tomorrow, but it is apparent that Samsung has no viable solution to this built in problem which I suspect is caused by the Surround Airvection with its multiple multi-fan system that circulates the air. What else could explain so much grease inside/between the door glass? In anticipation of not getting any satisfaction out of Samsung (I can tell by their arrogant answers and the way I was spoken to on the phone) I called Lowes, the store where I purchased the oven. Lowes has agreed to work with me to replace the oven with another brand/model if need be. I suggested to Lowes that they contact Samsung corporate to complain about this product and to complain about the damage Samsung is doing to their consumer base by treating the consumer so poorly and expecting the us to pay for their engineering failure.SAMSUNG: THE ISSUE WITH THIS PRODUCT AND YOUR "SOLUTION" IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!CONSUMER, DO NOT FOR ANY REASON EVEN CONSIDER PURCHASING THIS PRODUCT, THE SAMSUNG FREESTANDING ELECTRIC RANGE FTQ387LWGX.

5I Absolutely LOVE this Range!
By T. Jackson
There are not many good reviews on this site for this product so I wanted to add my input, since most people only leave reviews when they are dissatisfied. I have had this Range for about 5 weeks now and I just LOVE IT! I was really afraid of it when I purchased it and first used it because of all the reviews about how hard it is to keep clean and how easily it scratches. I have found that it absolutely shows splatters much more than my old coil range with the white top. It just made me realize how little I actually cleaned my old one because I couldn't see the splatters. Also, my old range had a black plastic top part that was very difficult to clean period. The top on this one is stainless and very easy to wipe down and the knobs are made of heavy stainless steel, not some cheap plastic. Also, the control panel has a lock button on it so you can wipe it down without accidentally pressing buttons. I use Dawn dishwashing detergent to clean the cooktop and find that while I am cleaning more often, it's not a big deal to keep clean. Dawn cuts the grease, plus I don't have to clean under the burners and around the ring of the coils. It heats quickly and I find no problem with the "low" temperature burning things. I appreciate the lights that tell which burner is lit, although you can just look at the knobs to see which one is not directly upright. I LOVE the two front burners that can accommodate various sized pots and pans. The warming burner has also been very handy. This is my first smooth top range and was very worried about scratching it but I haven't found that I have to use it any differently than my old coil burner range. The only thing I haven't done yet is use my cast Iron skillet as the bottom of it is not completely flat. I LOVE the convection oven! The entire oven itself is so much larger than my old one and I have had a lot of fun baking cookies, cornbread, homemade pizza and loaves of bread that come out perfectly in the convection oven and looking forward to making other things as well. I LOVE that the oven beeps to let you know when it's heated to the proper temperature and you can see at any time what temperature it is at. I must agree with another reviewer who said the oven racks seem to tilt when fully extended outward. That has me a little worried about putting anything too heavy on a rack while it's fully extended. I did a lot of research before purchasing this from Best Buy and was very happy to find this was the one with the most features for the money as I also have the Samsung four door, french door refrigerator and LOVE it! At first I didn't think I would use the warming drawer but have come to love it also. The oven heats much faster than my old Amana and the oven door window is HUGE! The lighting inside is also very good. The steam cleaning feature works well for me also. We got this Range on sale and my husband (who is not much of a cook) has even been excited to try it out. This is a BEAUTIFUL Appliance that instantly adds a touch of class to the kitchen and is very functional, with every feature I could ever imagine but never knew existed! I would definitely recommend this range to anyone looking for a smooth top with all the bells and whistles.

Product Description

The Defender is a beautiful, air tight plate steel wood burning stove with nickel-pewter trim that accents a charcoal black finish. A heavy cast iron door with air washed ceramic glass allows a magnificent view of the burning fire that will enhance any hearth setting. Here's how it works: The primary air inlet at the front of the stove ignites the wood upon start up. Once burning, the secondary air inlet at the rear of the firebox feeds air to the top of the stove through three (3) ignition tubes directly above the wood. The result is that you have ignition, or fire, at the bottom and at the top of the woodstove which, in effect, consumes the wood. This is a very efficient method of getting the most energy possible out of the wood that you are burning. The Defender meets EPA requirements for Certified wood burning appliances as well as meeting State of Washington regulations for low emissions at 4.22 grams/hour. Over 75-Percent efficient, with a BTU rating of 68,000.

Bought this from Menards much less expensive than here. Was disappointed with how small the firebox was. However when it came time to use it I was very impressed. When its 20 degrees outside it heats my 1600 square foot home easy. It doesnt use a lot of wood. It burns the wood to powder. Very easy to get fire going, and maintain. Overall very impressed with this little stove.

5We love it!
By Jeffrey E
From what I have been able to gather, this is the first ever review of the Breville BDF500XL Smart Fryer (here or otherwise), so I will do my best to provide a valuable assessment.Over the years we have owned several fryers, but never found one that stood up to what we were looking for in an appliance. Either they did not get hot enough or they were a pain to clean or the failed after a few uses... it was always something. Inevitably, we would return to either pan or Dutch ovens for frying over the range. This was no picnic either as it was way too difficult to maintain a constant temperature. So how did we come about this unit from Breville?Recently, our toaster oven of many years finally died on us. In our search for a replacement we ended up with the Breville Smart Oven and it is awesome! We were so impressed with the quality and performance of the toaster oven that we decided to take a gamble on the Smart Fryer. And boy was this a good bet. The fryer is every bit as well thought out as its cousin the oven and it is extremely well made too. I have to hand it to the folks at Breville - they seemed to have figured out how to make a top notch, reasonably priced product. As for the fryer... It comes in 6 pieces: outer shell, inner hopper, heating element, cover, basket and power cord. This is a great set up when it comes time to disassemble and clean. Assembled it is a sturdy unit that holds a generous 1 gallon of oil. The lid fits snugly on top and does a great job controlling the steam. The heating element quickly gets the oil to temperature and best of all... keeps it there. Even when you load in a good portion of chicken, it quickly recovers the temperature drop and holds it without a tremendous over shoot. We verified the temperature using an instant read thermometer and we were very impressed with how well it could hold a temperature with little to no variance. Because of this, the food cooks quickly and evenly. I wish that the basket would hold more product, but it is my assessment that any change would compromise the well regulated temp control. The controls are pretty slick too. For many applications you just select what you want to do and hit start. The temp & time are controlled for you. If you want to go manual it is easy to do that as well. Since we do not fry all that often it does take a moment to re-acquaint yourself with the functioning of the controls, but it only takes a minute to do this and you are up & running. We have found that the pre-programmed settings are right on target. So much so that you can start your frying and walk away without having to watch the product or a clock. When the frying is all done, the lid does a great job keeping the odors in place so the house does not get all smelly waiting for the oil to cool. Once it is cool, you lift out the heating element and then remove the inner hopper which holds the oil. It is very easy (using a funnel) to pour the used oil back into the original container for storage until the next use. Everything is very easy to clean and can go into the dishwasher if that is what you desire (with the exception of the heating element & cord!).Any downside? Yes, just one. The way the cord attaches to the unit is a pain. There are two magnets which help to anchor the electrodes to the unit; completing the circuit. The problem is that it is really easy to dislodge the chord with the slightest jiggle. Not that this happens a lot, but if and when it does it is a real pain and you will ask yourself "why did they do it this way? It is so lame!". But that is the only downside and it is easy to overlook when you consider how well made the rest of the unit is.Bottom line - we love this and would replace it if we ever lost it.PROS:* Excellent heat control* Fairly large capacity* Super easy controls* Great lid - controls steam & odors* Easy set up and tear down - including cleaning* Exceptionally well madeCONS:* It is easy to dislodge the power cord.

Product Description

This Rubbermaid Commercial heavy-duty utility cart has a 500-lb. weight capacity and comes with two deep shelves, built-in tool storage, and an ergonomic raised handle for material and supply transport. High-density polypropylene resin provides chemical resistance and dimensional stability. Rounded corners help prevent the cart from nicking walls and furniture. The two deep shelves help keep loads from sliding, while molded notches on the top shelf allow long, slender items like pipes and tubes to rest securely. The cart's top shelf also has a holster, a caddy, and built-in hooks for storage of frequently used tools and equipment, and molded-in fittings along the cart's support beams allow customization by adding rods for rope or wire spools. The raised handle is positioned at a more optimal height for ergonomic hand placement and increased control than the typical flat handle on most utility carts. The cart has four 5" casters, two of which swivel for maneuverability. The casters are made of thermoplastic rubber to resist abrasion, absorb shock, and roll on an assortment of floor surfaces, including linoleum, wood, and carpet. The cart is 33-1/4 x 45-1/4 x 25-7/8 inches (H x W x D). (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) This cart requires assembly with a mallet and Phillips screwdriver (sold separately).

Utility carts are used for securely storing, organizing, and transporting equipment, supplies, and materials. They are suitable for use in industrial, manufacturing, and maintenance applications, as well as in the home.

Rubbermaid manufactures cleaning, organizing, and material handling products for commercial, medical, and industrial applications. The company, founded in 1933, is headquartered in Huntersville, NC.

5Great cart for my purpose
By gwe
We needed a cart with a little wider footprint for stability to support a generator (about 110 pounds) as I loaded it on and off my pickup for camping/travel. This cart is both substantial in strength and stability. I made a rack to increase the height and have a ramp to roll the generator on and off the truck. We store the generator on this cart and it handles well to roll out of the way. Even with the added height and heavy weight on top, this cart is very stable.Larger wheels would have been nice but our usage is probably not typical and we can handle it as is.

5Great cart!
By PVB
Got this cart to use after we moved to a 3rd floor condo at the beach. It is perfect for carrying anything from groceries to heavy boxes of ceiling fans, etc. Arrived quickly, assembled easily and is very sturdy and easy to maneuver. Much better than anything we could find in stores (including Home Depot, Lowe's, hardware stores, Target, etc.). Highly recommend!

Product Description

You don't have to travel to Italy for delicious authentic gelato. Make it in the comfort of your own home with the new Gelato Maker from DeLonghi. Gelato is a dense mixture with lower fat than ice cream and no added air, which is more rich and flavorful. And with the self-refrigerating compressor, you don't have to wait for your favorite sweet treat. Built-in compressor brings the ingredients to temperatures below freezing, which frozen bowl ice cream makers cannot do. Make multiple batches continuously instead of having to wait to re-freeze the ice cream bowl. The removable stainless steel bowl makes for easy serving and cleanup and the mixing paddle effectively mixes ingredients from top to bottom for perfect consistency. Other highlights include a refrigerant gas that doesn't deplete the ozone layer, transparent lid and recipe book.

5Works very well
By V. Elliott
Being a manager of a kitchen retail store gives me a little edge because I can see a few of these machines in person. Our store carries the Cuisinart Ice Cream maker that has the prefreeze bowl, we also carry the Cuisinart self refrigerated unit, and the Delonghi gelato machine. We use the Cuisinart prefreeze models for our demo's we doon Saturday's at the store. It works, but it's not the most impressive ice cream you've ever had.I wanted something better. I looked at both of the other units I listed above. The Cuisinart unit didn't feel well made to me. I took out the bowl, etc and the arm that goes across the top of the machine to the bowl feels like it will be only a matter of time before that gets broke. I decided to try the Delonghi model.I have used it several times now. I love it!! The first recipe I made was butter pecan ice cream. It was excellent and the machine had it ready in 30 minutes. It can take an extra ten minutes if you add alcohol to your recipe (and this recipe used Jack Daniels). The next recipe was chocolate hazelnut gelato. OMG...Yummy!Everything we've made has been great. The machine is very simple to use and it works great. I'm very happy with my decision and hope this helps you if you're debating between machines. I would recommend this machine.I've read that many people didn't like the Cuisinart unit because it's very loud when you use it.This machine is not very loud. I would say that it's quieter than a blender running. I can still watch tv with it running without upping the volume. It's pretty easy to clean too. There is one area that can get crumbs when you add nuts, etc. I just wipe around in there with a moist q-tip and that's about the only "problem" I can find with this unit. I also purchased The Perfect Scoop book by David Lebovitz. Excellent recipes. Haven't found a dud yet and it also has great resources in the back of the book in regards to ordering ingredients, etc.Hope this helps with your decision :)

5A keeper
By Curtis W. Hargus
If you know the difference between gelato and ice cream, and you don't want to spend a few thousand dollars on a commercial gelato machine to satisfy your gelato urges, then this Delonghi gelato machine is for you. I was a skeptic at first, but after having used the machine and tasted the byproduct, Delonghi engineering has created an acceptable gelato machine that is affordable. I have made french vanilla, vanilla, lemon gelato, lemon sorbet and peanut butter cup gelato and all have been excellent. The advertised differences of less air and more dense conconctions is not hype but reality. I am not ready to say this machine will rival the gelaterias of Italy for truffle smooth creations, but what it produces is close enough for my palate. The peanut butter cup gelato was very close to truffle smooth and oh so rich and smooth. The lemon sorbet is intense and delectable. The concept the machine uses to produce gelato is the same as gelato machines costing a few thousand dollars more. The difference is scale (smaller batches) and the need for hardening in the fridge after processing---minor work arounds for the cost savings. The noise level is tolerable, and it appears to be well built. I believe if you follow the manufacturer's directions for use, the machine will perform admireably for many seasons. I would suggest buying Terrance Kopfer's book "Making Artisan Gelato." Delonghi's recipes are of the mix it freeze it sort---if you really want the flavor rush and smoothness unique to gelato, invest the time to prepare it the way it should be and you will be rewarded with this machine. With that said, the Delonghi vanilla, and french vanilla recipes were very good and the prep time was minutes instead of hours. The 1.2 pint capacity was a concern for me initially and caused me to postpone my purchase a few months. I can now say this is really an asset since you can make several varieties of gelato/sorbet in smaller quantities for entertaining which I believe lessens the potential for waste and ultimately cost. The longest freeze time was 25 minutes and the hardness of the product at the end of the cycle was much more frozen than I expected. In my opinion, given what I have mostly read about other machines, and what I have experienced as an owner of the Delonghi GM6000 Gelato Machine, I believe this may very well be the best gelato, er ice cream machine at this price point in the marketplace.

4Gelato Maker
By Troy P. Henry
I just received my DeLonghi Gelato Maker today. I love DeLonghi products. They are very well made. It's a little heavy, which is good. When I was deciding which Gelato maker to get I read all the different reviews on Amazon. This machine hadn't been reviewed. What sold me on it was all the other DeLonghi products I own are all very reliable. Because there were no other reviews I Googled it to learn more about it. One concern was that other websites listed it as having a 1.5 pint capacity. (24oz) This is incorrect. The actual capacity is 1.2 liters. Which is approximately 40 ounces. I've only made the basic dairy gelato recipe (vanilla). It worked very well. It only took about 20 minutes to freeze the gelato. I only gave four stars because of the lack of information on capacity. But it is a 5 star product.I've owned this gelato maker now for a month. I love it. Here is an easy recipe that works well in this machine.Gelato di Fragola (Strawberry Gelato)Ingredients*10oz fresh strawberries / or frozen*1cup granulated sugar*1cup cold whipping cream*1cup cold water*dash of lemon juice (if the berries are not fresh)Directions1.Clean and cut washed berries into quarters, or just smaller pieces.2.Put berries, sugar and water into a blender or food processor and blend until liquid and smooth. (This is also where you'll add lemon juice if necessary.)3.Whip the cream until slightly thickened - like the consistency of buttermilk.4.Combine the cream with the strawberry mixture and mix thoroughly until blended.5.Freeze as indicated by the manufacturer of your ice cream maker.
