5Excellent Unit
By rzca
We have done a great deal of research on portable AC units and we have learned a few valuable facts - that these units should have dual exhaust lines, that they should have a warranty, that they circulate truly cool or cold air and that they should not be too large. This unit does or has all of these attributes. The exhaust does not use room air so one need not leave a door or window slightly ajar ( thereby exhausting cool air as well); the product has a one year warranty and a five year limited warranty on the compressor or closed part of the system; we took the temperature of the cool air being blown out of the vent with an infrared thermometer, it was 52.2 degrees F; the unit is large but not huge and rolls easily. Some have written it is noisy - we use it to cool down a 20 by 10 foot garage and the noise, when we are working in there is not disturbing at all. The drain is easy to access, and if you use a shallow pie plate you can easily drain the unit ( which shuts off automatically if it overfills). This unit tends to evaporate the condensate so draining the unit is something you don't have to do all the time. We had difficulty getting the temperature of this room below 84 - with this unit the temperature easily fell into the low 70's. It is well made, looks very nice, is easy to install and move around. We recommend the unit as long as you use it in a room and in conditions that are reasonable and are within the unit's capacity.

4Works well in hot humid climate
By JEWELHOUND
Used in my home in the a very hot humid climate. It never shut off due to a full reservoir. I relocated it to my RV and drained it before storing for a trip. I found very little water left in the unit. I've used it as a dehumidifier and air conditioner and have been pleased with the result. The unit has two hoses for condenser air. One hose to take in air for the condenser and another to discharge hot air from the condenser. This makes the unit work well. Single hose units draw outside air into your home to make up for the air discharged through the single hose. These do not work. The heat load created by the hot humid air drawn into your house offsets the benefit of the units operation. The only thing I would change is the indoor fan operation. The indoor fan does not shut off when the unit is satisfied. This causes a small rise in relative humidity as it re-evaporates condensate in the drain pan during the compressor off cycle. Other than that it is a great unit. If the indoor fan shut off with the compressor I'd give it 5 stars.

2Good cooling, but too loud.
By Kurtis
I bought two Friedrich window A/C units (10,000 btu) along with this portable unit, so I have been able to make direct comparisons. In short, the portable unit cools well, but is about three times as loud as the window units. If you don't mind the noise, then the advantages of this unit are that it is very easy to install, it looks much better from the outside of the house, and it cools very efficiently. The downsides are the size (bigger than a window unit with the same btu) and the noise.Update: I'm returning this unit because it is so loud that we cannot sleep with it turned on...sort of defeats the purpose. I'm sticking with Friedrich, but going to a window model, which I know from experience is much quieter.
