Product Description
True HEPA filtration captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. Removes airborne allergens such as dust, pet dander, pollen, tobacco smoke, fabric fibers and mold spores from large rooms up to 495 square feet. LCD electronic control features an Auto Mode which automatically increases fan speed to boost filtration when the VOC-SENSE detects volatile organic compounds. A charcoal pre-filter reduces VOCs, traps odors and pre-cleans the air before it reaches the HEPA filter. Other features include a Sleep Mode, remote control, and up to 18-hour countdown timer. AHAM Certified CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate). ENERGY STAR® Qualified.

Cleans air well, Auto mode malfunctions
By Paul Singh
I spent more money on this Whirlpool air purifier because it has an Auto fan mode which detects VOCs in the air and turns the fan speed higher. I ordered one for my son's room and one for the master bedroom. After 2 weeks the one in the master bedroom kept detecting VOCs and changing the fan speed higher. It would stay in high mode with the VOC indicator lit for 12+ hours. I swapped the locations of the filters and the defective one kept malfunctioning while the other would never indicate VOCs in the master bedroom. The filter does seem to be working well otherwise. The air smells fresh. The filter does push quite a bit of air, which has been great in the summer but I am worried about that effect in winter. I will amend the review if that is an issue.Edit 2/24/13:The Auto mode doesn't work in either purifier now. Also, the purifiers cannot be used in bedrooms at night during the winter because in any position/direction we placed the filters, they would create a breeze that cooled the room. I still wish the VOC auto detection worked, especially because I am buying 2 more to place downstairs and it would be nice if they would kick up to a higher speed to get rid of cooking odors etc.

Powerful & Fresh!!!
By Plunkett Family
I would have liked to pay a bit less & not have the remote control; we don't need or use it. I have researched ALOT of air purifiers, & this is one of the better deals I have found -- $199 is very good for this much power. I like that it has 2 different filters, & the electronic display shows how much filter life has been used & how much is left with a bar graph. This machine also does NOT put out ozone, which is a positive. The room does smell fresh -- almost like oxygen is being pumped into it!It is noisy -- we have it on high, which sounds like our box fan on med-high. This is fine for us, b/c we sleep w/ a box fan for white noise. The lower settings are significantly quieter. My 9 year old son used to have nasal build-up EVERY DAY, but since using the Whirlpool Whispure, his nose is clear!!! This is proof enough for us that our air is significantly cleaner with the Whirlpool APR45130L.This is the 1st air purifier we've purchased, & I feel good that we made a great choice.I have a feeling that it's such a great deal, b/c it looks like an air conditioner & not as attractive as others. If you don't mind the way it looks, though, this is a lot of quality air purifier for the buck! Also, it's not difficult to move. Although it's big, I have no problem moving it from the 1st to 2nd floor. There's a built-in handle behind the display board. An elderly or weaker person would want to leave it on one floor, I believe.I would purchase this again!

Air purifier
By firepit
Quiet like the auto button where you an see the quality of the air in the room. Much quieter than the Honeywell purifiers I have.
