Product Description
Eight hundred watts of power and planetary mixing action ensure efficient mixing and beating. Not only can this heavy duty stand mixer knead even the toughest whole grain bread dough into submission, it also has a sufficient range of settings, allowing it to tenderly beat a meringue. Locking pop up heads make clean up snap. A special stirring speed helps prevent flour pouf, and liquid splatter during the initial mixing stage. Max speed is engineered for whipping custards, cream, and meringues - in other words when you want to incorporate maximum air. There are numerous attachments available for this unit to increase its multi-tasking capabilities. If you've become a fan of Viking's reliability, quality and style, no doubt this stand mixer would be a most welcome addition to your kitchen.

Worth every penny!
By bakerash
In my serach for a mixer that would make homemade marshmallows, I narrowed it down between the Viking and the Kitchen Aid. The Viking mixer was fairly new at the time but the reviews were great. The long standing Kitchen reviews had gone from good to terrible. From what I read, Kitchen Aid replaced some of its metal machine/motor parts with plastic parts and the mixers were breaking inside. For the same price the Viking is built better and is industrial strength. I can make multiple batches of marshmallows back-to-back without any strain on my Viking mixer's motor. It actually makes the marshmallows in half the time as my mom's Kitchen Aid, which is half the time the recipe calls for. I am very pleased with my purchase and would tell all my friends and family to get a Viking if they were looking to purchase a mixer. I am even looking to purchase their brand in other kitchen appliances. As a baker, you cannot go wrong with this one!

broke after moderate usage
By Charles Dudek
Our 5-qt Viking mixer(VSM 500)is a little over 3 years old. My husband uses it only to mix bread dough..maybe 3 times per month. The retaining pin on the back of the motor housing/pedestal/tilt-back head loosened and the retaining clip fell out, making the mixer unusable without damaging the mixer. In order to repair the unit, I must ship it to Detroit (I live in Massachusetts). This should not happen on a $400.00 appliance.

Great mixer for a home baker!
By Sara Rice
I have had this mixer for over two years now. I was looking for an extra bowl and came across my model so I thought I would write a review. I got this Viking mixer to replace my Kitchenaid that was giving out on me. The base/stand is very study and the attachments are very solid. I like the fact they are not coated with something that might peal (which was happening to my Kitchenaid). The arm has a both up and down locking positions and the bowl itself has a nice wide top so it's really easy to add ingredients as you mix away. I am a heavy bread baker and the dough attachment works perfectly.
