Oh, God, I love this microwave.
By Lexi Genoa
My poor microwave died and I'm replacing it ASAP with one exactly like it--only alive. Although it barely lasted 18 months, which is why I'm deducting one star, I don't care. This microwave is perfect and I must have another as soon as possible. Here's why:I hate taking orders from a machine. I will not 'turn over' 'pry apart' push extra buttons and memorize complicated rituals to use a kitchen appliance. With this microwave I don't have to. We had some electrical issues that have since been solved in our home and I believe that may have contributed to the short life of this machine. However, it is so easy to use that I would replace it yearly if necessary. The vegetable button for example: Hit it once for canned veg. twice for frozen, or is it once for fresh? It doesn't matter, the screen tells me and the sensor does the rest. I can walk off, doing something else and come back to find PERFECTLY cooked food. Suppose I want to heat some leftover meat to put in a hot sandwich. Toss the package in the microwave and hit 'fish'. Fish is delicate so I use the fish button to heat a lot of things to perfection with ONE BUTTON PUSH. Do I have to babysit the darned thing. NOPE!Popcorn. ONE BUTTON PUSH. Suppose I have five pounds of hamburger to defrost? Push DEFROST, 50, START. Four button pushes and I can walk away. Sure, it asks for me to turn stuff over, but it DOESN'T STOP and wait if I don't get back. I like that. I cook for prisoners and harvesters on our farm when we need the extra labor. Getting food out of a Galley kitchen in record time and in the field is important. I don't have time to babysit a machine, while I'm making coffee, gravy, stirring up dessert to go in the oven, and making sure the iced tea has some strength to it. I gotta move and my kitchen machines have to perform NOW! However, if you like to padink around with different power levels and times, this machine will also do that. I think it may even have a timer that will have it come on, but I don't use it and can't speak to that. The power is all I could ask for. When it goes off, it will remind you with the occasional beep that you've left something in the microwave. That's how I usually find my coffee. My husband can even use this machine.Generally, we don't have time to learn anything but essentials because we have other machines that are more important that we learn than a faster way to heat up frozen muffins in the morning. Like auto-steering on the tractors and things of that nature. A kitchen appliance needs to be easy. This one is. And while I'm at it, I should say, ABT appliances out of near Chicago is fantastic to do long distance business with. You can reach them by phone or internet.I found them through AMAZON.COM the first time.Nina SipesFrom the middle of a wheat field in SW Kansas

Good Features, High List Price
By Economist
This is our third GE microwave. #1 is still running. #2 failed after two years and was replaced by a Panasonic that died after 18 months. The GEs are all superior to the lower-priced Panasonic in features and quality of build. (An unlike the Panasonic, all the GEs can properly pop corn!) The turntable on/off switch is desirable, as are the instant-on 30 second and 1-6 minute one-click alternatives. My only serious concern is reliability, based on our GE#2's failure. Therefore, this review is incomplete. If problems surface in first year, my rating will drop to one star, with appropriate adjustments based on reliability over time. If no problems after five years, the rating will change to five stars.
