4Read this before buying

I didn't get this piece of furniture online but instead bought it considerably cheaper at an authorized local Howard Miller distributor. The good news is this a solidly built piece of furniture that you can be proud of. It weighs around 400 lbs and was so heavy that my Ford Ranger let me immediately know what I was in for when the mudflaps were reaching for the road. The good news is that the cabinet has to be the best I have ever seen packaged in a box. Styrofoam was thick and located on all sides. I advise to try and keep it boxed up (if possible) until you have it where you want it, or else you might want to unhinge both doors to make it lighter. The bad news: The locking feature to keep nosy kids out of the cabinet is all but useless because of the way it is designed. After setting mine up I realized that the fully locked door could easily be opened by just tugging on the right door. I called Howard Miller who promptly sent me all new parts for the locking mechanism at no charge. After installing the parts the problem persisted but I have since found the solution. The left door has a surface mounted slide bolt that locks the door in place at the top but has nothing to secure the door at the bottom. I realized that the door could bow enough at the bottom to allow you to unlatch the right door. I found on Amazon another antique brass 4" slide bolt and mounted it at the bottom of the left door to match the one at the top. Then I had to shim the lock jam out with washers and (using a dremel tool) grind the bottom of the lock jam to perfectly line up both doors with the lock bolt. To say the least the doors now lock securely as designed and do so with little effort. These things should of been taken care of in the factory. The doors should line up perfectly to lock (mine didn't) and there should be another surface mounted slide bolt at the bottom of the left door so there is absolutely no movement (none of these units have this).Even though getting the doors to lock properly was a pain I'm still glad I bought this. I'll keep it for many years to come.

5Great Bar
By K. Harris
Very well built American Bar. Holds a ton of liquor and functions very well. The Cherry colors blends well with any decor. Wine storage is plentiful. Light is a great feature. The lock is great to keep out young kids or unwanted adults!

This cabinet is awesome. Very well made, sturdy, and plenty of room for the storage of my beverages, glassware, and utensils. And, it looks beautiful!
