We Made The Right Choice

We wanted a front-loading washer because we like the performance of the front-loader in our previous house, and we like the feeling of using less water and getting cleaner clothes in the bargain.First ImpressionsI am impressed! This washing machine has a lot of button and lights and at first glance one can be intimidated by the controls. However, the "GE GFWH1200DWW" makes most of the selections for you depending on what setting you chose via the rotary dial which includes the following selection: Whites, Colors, Sanitize, Delicates, Speed Wash, Drain + Spin, and Basket Clean. There are push button controls for "Soil, Spin and Temp" with a wide range of selection, however these are made for you automatically depending on your rotary dial choice.You are free to change them of course, but I have found that letting the washer chose the setting for me tends to work best. So controls that once looked intimidating aren't and washing a load is just a dial setting away.GE recommends using only High Efficiency (HE) detergent with the GE GFWH1200DWW and we settled on Tide because it tends to get our cloths cleaner. The detergent dispenser is situated on the left hand side of the washer and has a compartment for detergent, fabric softener, and bleach. The compartment is removable and good thing since the fabric softener compartment tends to fill with water after each wash and needs to be emptied.The GE GFWH1200DWW is fairly quite though you know when the door is being locked or unlocked. Speaking of which, the washer can be paused during the wash cycle to permit to adding of additional cloths; the start button is actually a Start/Pause button.ConclusionWith its 3.6 cu. Ft. capacity, the GE GFWH1200DWW can and does swallow a lot of cloths. The average wash cycle last 1:25. We opted for the optional pedestal/ storage unit and I'm glad we did because it raises the washer off the floor to just the right height where we do not have to bend over to add and retrieve clothing.Overall I (we) are quite pleased with the "GE GFWH1200DWW Front Load Washer"; it does what it is supposed to do with minimum fuss and at the end of the wash cycle and alarm will sound at 1 minute intervals until you come an retrieve your wash. Nice touch GE. And while I would have preferred another color, blue, or red perhaps, the white is not unattractive, and it gets the job done.If you are looking for a sub-$1000.00 front loading washer ($839.00 at Amazon.com believe it or not; they sell everything!), the GE GFWH1200DWW should be on your list.
